Job Description:
This is an excellent opportunity to join Allison Transmission, Inc. as an entry-level engineer in our Engineering Rotational Program. The position will be located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

ROTATIONAL PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The Product Engineering Rotational Program will provide an entry-level engineer with key experiences and exposure to the Allison Transmission, Inc. engineering functions. You will have less than two years of engineering experience and will rotate through four key areas of engineering for up to two years. Each rotational assignment may be up to six months in length, but could vary based on individual situations or organizational needs. Rotational assignments may include, but are not limited to Engineering Test Services, Customer Integration, Calibration and Design. The order of these rotations may vary based on departmental availability or timing of your placement. As a Rotational Engineer, you will be provided with key learning objectives during each rotation and a dedicated manager to provide you with developmental feedback. Upon successful completion of the Rotational Assignment Program, you will be placed in a product engineering department based on your interests and the organizational needs.
TEST ENGINEERING ROTATION:
As a Test Engineer, you will have access to a state of the art transmission test laboratory. You will utilize one of our many test cells to replicate various environmental/mechanical conditions in order to perform complex testing procedures. This hands-on engineering role will allow you to explore the many components that make up our products and provide critical analysis needed by multiple partners both internal and external to the organization. Typical duties that will be performed during this rotation include the testing of various propulsion and transmission systems and components, controls, and oil flow issues. You will also gain valuable exposure to configuring test units, data collection & analysis, test reporting and working with Test Technicians and a variety of skillsets. At the completion of this rotation, you will have gained an advanced level of technical knowledge of the mechanics of our transmissions, as well as, valuable knowledge of the mechanics of our transmissions and systems that will propel your career with Allison Transmission.
CALIBRATION & VALIDATION ROTATION:
Software Calibrations represent a critical component of the propulsion system as they enable tailoring of components to specific vehicles and end user applications. As a key member of the Calibration and Validation Engineering team, you will focus on transmission calibration development, validation and the integration of the transmission within the engine and vehicle system. Some of your major activities will include improving drivability and fuel economy while reducing emissions. During this rotation, your key contributions may involve developing specifications, planning projects, analyzing data, reporting results, maintaining records, writing reports, collaborating with customers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) all tied to validation and tailoring calibrations to meet customer needs.
CUSTOMER INTEGRATION ROTATION:
The Customer Integration Engineering role is important in order for Allison Transmission to provide extraordinary service to over 300 OEMs we support around the world. Your focus during this rotation will be partnering with the Allison Sales team and external customers to provide technical expertise on products in order to enhance the value of the Allison Transmission. You will learn how to improve vehicle and calibration specifications before the sale to ensure that the end user receives the best product for their specific needs. You will also work closely with the end user after the sale to ensure customer satisfaction and to meet their evolving needs. You will be the technical face of the organization to the customer and provide critical feedback to our engineering team in terms of quality, performance, and business opportunities.
DESIGN ROTATION:
During the Design rotation, you may be placed in various departments to include Advanced, Commercial and Controls Design. In this rotation you will be involved with component design activities in the assigned department. You will also gain competencies in all aspects of a design project, including drawings, prototype builds and test services. You will collaborate with Design Graphics in order to conduct geometric tolerancing and layout. Through the use of analytical investigations, you will learn how to verify design and performance objectives. You will also have regular interactions with the Operations team to ensure proposed designs of components meet manufacturing requirements.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Less than 2-years of experience in engineering or related field; recent college graduate preferred
- Willingness to commit to an up-to 2-year rotational program in various areas of engineering
- Strong analytical background and mechanical aptitude displayed through coursework or experiences
- Strong business communication skills and the ability to present to various audiences across the organization
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time or as needed based on the nature of the assignment
- Strong organizational skills in order to focus on multiple projects and contending priorities
