Engineering Specialist, Hardware Test (R2711)

Shield AI’s mission is to protect the lives of service members and civilians with intelligent systems. The Hardware Test Engineering team contributes to this effort by designing test solutions that drive high hardware reliability on our V-BAT vehicle. These solutions are in-house designed electrical and mechanical equipment used to perform component and system-level testing, both at ambient and in simulated harsh environmental conditions. In this role, you will build and maintain a fleet of test systems that included electrical, mechanical, and software elements. You will design basic circuit boards, harnesses, and mechanical fixtures in addition to working with and deploying servers. Help us save lives as we strive to deliver the most highly reliable aerospace hardware in the industry.
What you'll do:
- Build and maintain test stands, which include electrical, mechanical, and software elements. Test stands also include harnessing and other cabling.
- Design and implement safety systems on test stands, which may include PLCs.
- Design simple PCBs, mechanical fixtures, and harnessing.
- Respond to emergent issues on the production floor to keep test stands running.
- Contribute to and attend cross-functional design reviews. Advocate for design changes that result in simpler testing processes and test stand maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
- Experience with hands-on technical work in a high-volume production setting.
- Experience designing and maintaining engineered systems.
- Understanding of fundamental engineering concepts, including EE, Mech E, Programming, Physics, and Mathematics.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary hardware development projects, which can be from an internship, job, club, team, personal project, etc…
- Demonstrated history of showing ownership of project outcomes and delivering exceptional results.
- Record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with PCB schematic and layout tools, including Altium, KiCAD, Eagle, etc…
- Experience building wiring harnesses and assembling circuit boards.
- Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, etc…
- Demonstrated adaptability, agility, and the ability to innovate under pressure to meet dynamic project demands and drive successful outcomes.
