Engineering Team Lead - Data Platform - Artificial Intelligence

Bloomberg's Engineering AI department has 300+ AI practitioners building highly sought after products and features that often require novel innovations. We are investing in AI to build better search, discovery, and workflow solutions using technologies such as transformers, gradient boosted decision trees, large language models, and dense vector databases. We are expanding our group and seeking highly skilled individuals who will be responsible for contributing to the team (or teams) of ML and Software Engineers that are bringing innovative solutions to AI-driven customer-facing products.

The AI Data Platform group at Bloomberg enables the storage, provenance, discovery and serving of AI artifacts. We provide managed data streams, curated training datasets and features, integrated storage with our internal ML Platform, and metadata catalogs. Our group is growing and we are looking for two leaders to help us expand our offerings. One Team Lead will be responsible for evolving our data stream processing solution, enhancing how we store, access, and make this data discoverable throughout our platforms. Another Team Lead will be responsible for enhancing our managed model storage platform, enriching the experience for managing models and datasets from our internal ML Platform.

Join the AI department as an Engineering Team Lead and you will have the opportunity to:

• Work with application, product, and platform teams to define data needs and SLAs
• Design, build, and deploy resilient, monitorable pipelines to transport and store data in various storage solutions

-Identify the appropriate storage solutions and for a given use case, understand the tradeoffs in performance, cost, and complexity

• Model datasets with idiomatic schema design, tailored for a dataset's intended use
• Design and implement efficient data retrieval and processing solutions suited for our ML environments
• Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to influence the direction and support of various managed solutions

We are looking for an Engineering Team Lead with the following experience:

• 7+ years of experience working with an object-oriented programming language (C/C++, Python, Java, etc.)
• 2+ years in leadership, managing and coaching globally distributed teams and influencing third party technology strategy
• A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, and/or
• An equivalent combination of education, and/or
• Specialized training, and/or
• Related professional experience

We'd love to see an Engineering Team Lead with experience in any of the following:

• Experience with distributed and cloud-native technologies like Kafka, Docker, Spark, Flink, and Argo
• Experience with various storage technologies such as S3, HDFS, PostgreSQL, and Cassandra
• Experience with query and/or engines like Trino, Presto, and Solr
• Familiarity with web concepts and frameworks such as FastAPI and Oauth 2.0
