Position Overview

As a Development Team Manager, you will lead and manage our team of talented software engineers. You will foster a positive, innovative, performance-driven culture. You will work in a hybrid work environment with 2-3 days each week in our South Bend, Indiana office.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Team Management:
  • Lead, guide, and motivate a team of software engineers
  • Drive the creation of a positive, performance-based culture by establishing clear expectations and aligning them with the company's mission and goals.
    • Play an active role in assessing and managing the workload of your team. This involves not only distributing tasks and assignments evenly, but also monitoring the pace and quality of work output; ensuring that all team members are optimally utilized, contributing their unique skills and efforts to team objectives.
    • Set measurable and attainable performance objectives for each team member and the team as a whole
    • Communicate openly about what is expected and how performance is measured
    • Regularly review each team member's performance against their goals and performance measures. Provide constructive feedback, recognize achievements, and address any performance issues in a timely manner.
    • Ensure that all team members recognize how their contributions impact the larger team and company goals
    • Celebrate successes, acknowledge good work, and reward high performers
  • Oversee onboarding and training for new team members; introduce new hires to team dynamics, company culture, and position specifics
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement, coordinate ongoing training for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge. Work to create an environment where team members can learn from each other and improve their skills.
  • Organize team-building activities and create an environment where everyone feels valued and heard
  • Ensure that the team has the necessary resources to do their job effectively
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, quality assurance teams, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of technical and business goals. Facilitate clear and effective communication among teams.
  • Documentation: Help maintain and organize project-related documentation. This might involve updating project status reports, keeping track of meeting minutes, or ensuring that the team's documentation is stored and accessible.
  • Reporting: Collect and present data related to the software team's progress, challenges, and outcomes

Preferred Skills:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, project management, computer science, information systems or a related field. While a technical degree may not be mandatory, it can be beneficial.
  • Experience: Proven experience in a leadership role (ideally within a software development environment, but could be with another type of technical team)
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience with software development processes, methodologies (like Agile or Scrum), and lifecycle
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members and stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with team members, stakeholders, and other teams
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects
