MITRE's Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Program is seeking an experienced engineer who can serve as a Technical Advisor to the MDA Chief Engineer. The MDA Engineering and Integration Department functions as the MDA Chief Engineer's lead agent for the integration of individual MDA Element technical developments to ensure delivery of a unified Missile Defense System (MDS) capability. The MDA Engineering and Integration Team is looking to employ a Technical Advisor capable of identifying and resolving complex system of systems issues challenging interoperability and integration across the MDS.

MITRE is seeking an experienced technical leader, and a critical thinker with deep technical skills and a demonstrated track record of promoting and executing innovative ideas and solutions. Strong leadership and communication skills are necessary to coordinate innovative engineering solutions across numerous MDA Program Offices and engineering personnel. The job is based in Huntsville, AL and this work location is required to professionally foster sponsor relationships and shape the work program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop new or improved system engineering processes or procedures for the MDA Chief Engineer to resolve issues and achieve an integrated Missile Defense System (MDS) capability.
  • Coordinate across multiple MDA program and functional offices to identify coordinated and unified positions between stakeholders for new or improved engineering practices.
  • Investigate unresolved and longstanding implementation disconnects between MDA Elements. Utilize best systems engineering practices, or innovative ideas to promote recommendations and resolutions.
  • Examine existing and emerging system limitations to define criteria for delineation between system limitations and design faults.
  • Evaluate MDA Element technical performance metrics for suitability and applicability to achieve system level performance comparisons. Champion recommendations to the MDA Chief Engineer for dissemination and coordination with Element Chief Engineers.
  • Assess interface modifications, and coordinate with interface stakeholders to identify engineering solutions or procedures to reduce volatility and impact to integration and testing.
  • Identify engineering methods to introduce qualitative and quantitative interoperability assessment objectives and improve MDA test events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or similar field with 5 years of related experience; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step
  • Current Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Technical experience in weapon, sensor, and/or command and control systems.
  • Experience in system of systems engineering for complex defense systems.
  • Understanding of system requirements, interface documentation, and interoperability.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring new innovative solutions to sponsor challenges, and strategically advocate for new approaches.
  • Ability to provide leadership and management of tasks to influence and direct team members.
  • Effectively document, communicate, and present recommendations to both senior and technical level audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This position can consider Lead level candidates
  • Experience in MDA Program Offices with preference to GMD, C2BMC, and/or Sensors.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, and influence changes in engineering processes or perspectives.
  • Proficiency in applying systems engineering, integration, and interoperability solutions.
