Engineering Technical Lead
Job Description
Vicarious Surgical is hiring an Engineering Technical Lead to join our team in Waltham, MA. You will lead a technical team composed of the various R&D engineers, act as the design authority responsible for R&D deliverables for our single-use robotic instruments including complex design trade-offs, program and product risk mitigation, technical problem solving, and implementation decisions.
Vicarious Surgical is a next generation robotics company developing a disruptive technology with the goal of increasing the efficiency of surgical procedure, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

Specific responsibilities are listed below.
Responsibilities
- Lead a technical team composed of the various R&D engineers, act as the design authority responsible for R&D deliverables for programs, including complex system design trade-offs, program and product risk mitigation, technical problem solving and implementation decisions
- Work cross functionally to execute subsystem architectures and requirements
- Guide the technical team to create innovative imaging technology and ensure that we successfully execute our design controls process and deliver a high-quality system
- Ensure cost of goods is managed throughout the development process
- Work with Project Management to build and manage the technical deliverable schedule
- Partner with Project Management to communicate technical risks and resolution plans to leadership
- Provide technical work direction, technical guidance, coaching and mentorship to other engineers.
- Make data driven decisions using appropriate analytical methodologies
- Work with the Operations team and outside consultants to ensure that the system is designed for manufacturing
- Assist in the identification and selection of outside suppliers and consultants as required
- Prepare for and support various design reviews in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Verify that designs meet functional requirements through the performance of engineering analyses and testing
- Oversee specification development for device components, assemblies, packaging when required
- Support Test Engineering team on generation of test methods, acceptance criteria, and test equipment for all stages of product development
About You
- Minimum of a B.S. in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical or Engineering.
- 10 or more years of experience in medical device industry working on complex systems
- Experience and success leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams through development process in a formal technical leadership and / or architecting role
- Significant experience in the successful delivery of complex technology programs
- Experience leading and managing programs, resource allocation, planning, scheduling, and risk mitigation
- Experience transitioning from prototypes to commercial product
- Experience working on surgical systems strongly preferred
