Engineering Technician V
Job Description
As an Engineering Technician V, you will be regarded as a lead and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Thermal Protection System (TPS) production. You will be responsible for fabricating tile, softgoods, and TPS components in support of Sierra Space's Dream Chaserยฎ. This role includes operating within a team engaged in standing up Sierra Space's TPS production capability, involving equipment verification and validation (V&V), process definition and qualification, and lean manufacturing. You will contribute to the creation of procedures, process improvements, and manufacturing optimization efforts. Your role as a lead technician will include the operation and maintenance of state-of the-art equipment and tooling used for the manufacturing of TPS components, mentor and train personnel, and inspect others' work product for specification/process conformance.
Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin and Durham, North Carolina, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Must-haves:
- 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment
- Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
- Previous experience in an aerospace manufacturing/production environment
- Must be highly motivated and organized
- Ability to understand and interpret complex technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications
- Comprehensive understanding of the use and maintenance of specialized TPS equipment, including ovens/kilns, equipment controllers, general manufacturing equipment, measurement instruments, hand tools, and power tools
- Ability to operate computer-based interfaces used for documentation, data input, and equipment automation
- Ability to perform standard/general machine shop/manufacturing technician tasks, including, but not limited to, repetitive tasks that may include lifting and/or moving heavy objects
Preferred:
- Relevant experience with Thermal Protection Systems
- Machining experience
- Knowledge of hazardous material handling and waste procedures
- Prior experience in a Lead role; the ability to mentor, train, guide and inspect the work of subordinates
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, NASA, the US Department of Defense or US Military

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $32.74 - $40.92 - $45.02
