As an Engineering Technician V, you will be regarded as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and use your skills and expertise to perform a variety of duties in the structural, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or fluids areas. You'll be responsible for assembling, constructing, troubleshooting, calibrating, testing, and maintaining our equipment, components, devices, or systems. You'll ensure our systems and components meet established specifications.
Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin and Durham, North Carolina, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Must-haves:
  • Associate's degree in a related field of study and 6 or more years of experience
  • A higher level degree may substitute for experience
  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Ability to understand and interpret moderately complex technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications
  • Thorough understanding of the use of standard laboratory test equipment, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, Oscilloscope, Pitot static equipment, other measurement equipment, hand tools, and power tools
  • Advanced skills with assembly, connectors and crimping techniques

Preferred:
  • Experience with orbital tube welding.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and execute complex technical electrical and/or system schematics, functional block diagrams, engineering drawings, blueprints, manuals and/or publications, and pin-outs
  • Ability to execute the complex installations per technical drawings while maintaining edge distance and pitch
  • Advanced ability and skill to complete structure assembly, part-fitting, repair, and refinish, such as airframe corrosion removal, as applicable
  • Thorough understanding of and advanced ability to use standard laboratory test equipment, torque wrench, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, Oscilloscope, Pitot static equipment, digital multi-meters, power supplies, hand tools, and power tools
  • Thorough understanding of and advanced ability to use standard measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, and height gages
  • Thorough understanding of and advanced ability to use general shop tools: drills, reamers, drill jigs, clecos, nut plates, rivets, grinders, hi-lock fasteners, and composi-locks
  • Advanced knowledge of cutting and drilling carbon fiber and titanium
  • Advanced abilities in liquid shimming and bonding processes
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude
  • Advanced ability to use forklift, stackers, and air casters
  • Experience with cranes and critical lifting
  • Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting ability to solve complex issues
  • Advanced ability to communicate complex technical information effectively
  • Ability to operate in a controlled test laboratory environment (clean room) or other highly regulated environment (aviation, space, medical, power generation, etc)

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:
  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Frequently requires vision abilities to include close, distance, depth perception, and telling the difference between colors
  • Frequently requires hearing abilities to include discerning different tones and volumes
  • Frequently lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions:
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises

Safety Sensitive Position:
  • Responsible for the safety and security of people or property
  • Inspects, handles, or transports explosives, dangerous or hazardous materials
  • Inspects structures, equipment or vehicles
  • Performs Aviation related duties
  • Operate or supervise vehicles, heavy or dangerous equipment or machinery

Referral Bonus:
$1,500
Estimated Starting Salary Range: $42.66 - $58.65
