Job Description
KLA is a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Virtually every electronic device in the world is produced using our technologies. No laptop, smartphone, wearable device, voice-controlled gadget, flexible screen, VR device or smart car would have made it into your hands without us. KLA invents systems and solutions for the manufacturing of wafers and reticles, integrated circuits, packaging, printed circuit boards and flat panel displays. The innovative ideas and devices that are advancing humanity all begin with inspiration, research and development. KLA focuses more than average on innovation and we invest 15% of sales back into R&D. Our expert teams of physicists, engineers, data scientists and problem-solvers work together with the world's leading technology providers to accelerate the delivery of tomorrow's electronic devices. Life here is exciting and our teams thrive on tackling really hard problems. There is never a dull moment with us.
Group/Division
With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The LS-SWIFT Division of KLA's Global Products Group provides patterned wafer inspection systems for high-volume semiconductor manufacturing. Its mission is to deliver market-leading cost of ownership in defect detection for a broad range of applications in the production of semiconductors. Customers from the foundry, logic, memory, automotive, MEMS, advanced packaging and other markets rely upon high-sample wafer inspection information generated by LS-SWIFT products. LS (Laser Scanning) systems enable cost-effective patterned wafer defect detection for the industry's most sophisticated process technologies deployed in leading-edge foundry, logic, DRAM, and NAND fabs. SWIFT (Simultaneous Wafer Inspection at Fast Throughput) systems deliver all-wafer-surface (frontside, backside, and edge) macro inspection that is critical for automotive IC, MEMS, and advanced packaging processes as well as foundry/logic and memory fabs. LS-SWIFT operates from a global footprint that includes the US, Singapore, India and Germany, and serves a worldwide customer base across Asia, Europe and North America.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on cutting edge wafer inspection tools in the laser-scan division at KLA. He/she will own an optics subsystem, collaborating with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will work with systems engineers to translate the system level requirements to optical requirements and will perform the optical design with opto-mech support. He/she will work closely with vendors to procure optics, build and test using custom metrology systems. Finally, he/she will validate the design both at optical assembly level and system level after integration working with software to create the appropriate data collection methods.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on optics alignment in a lab or on the system in a Class 100 cleanroom setting.
- Own optics subsystems in a complex, semiconductor wafer inspection system for the entire product life cycle (PLC).
- Develop scripts and DOEs to assess system level optical performance, assist optics alignment and/or troubleshoot optics related issues. Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide optics evaluation for complex issues.
- Define optics alignment strategy and flow for complex system integration and work with manufacturing to generate procedures and checklists. Work closely with opto-mech team and manufacturing for required optics alignment tooling design needed for tool integration.
- Translate system or subsystem requirements into optical design and manufacturing requirements. Perform optics design and thorough tolerancing analysis to have a complete understanding of optical performance and manufacturability. Specify and develop module testing methods, procedures, and specifications.
- Work closely and cohesively with outside vendors and internal teams on continuous improvement of existing optics, new optics development and on-time delivery of optics. Understand vendor capabilities and specification trade-off/justifications. Work with opto-mech engineers to generate and update optics drawings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Deep understanding in physical optics, Fourier optics, geometric optics and aberration theory.
- Hands on experience with building optics setup and willingness to work in a clean room environment.
- Self-driven and persistent with good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Matlab
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Zemax (or equivalent optical design software) is a big plus.
- Experience in optical system design such as high precision lens design or illumination/collection design in semiconductor industry is a plus.
- Experience with complex semiconductor systems is a plus.
- Experience with Python and LabVIEW for data analysis/automation is a plus.
- Understanding of testing error budgets, statistics, and optical tolerancing for manufacturability is a plus.
- Working knowledge of a DUV laser and in-depth understanding of DUV laser engineering is a plus.
- Experience with optics vendor management is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Fizeau interferometer, WLI, wavefront sensor is a plus.
- Experience with optical coating damage is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate (Academic) or work experience of 0 years , Master's Level Degree or work experience of 2 years , Bachelor's Level Degree or work experience of 3 years
