Job Description

Enterprise Architects serve as advisor to senior management on business, information, and technology strategies. Enterprise Architects possess strategic thinking, communication, leadership, customer service, and organizational skills. The Enterprise Architect has broad experience in both business and technology roles. Experience spans multiple business sectors and/or technology domains. The Enterprise Architect will use these experiences to advance the Infrastructure and cloud technology domain for Medica.

Enterprise Architects have a wide set of duties and responsibilities. Primarily, the Enterprise Architect works to establish strategies, architectural future state, reference architecture, and ensures alignment of technology to architecture, standards, patterns, and principles. These activities are all done to realize company strategies/objectives, reduce costs, deliver new capabilities, or manage organizational risks.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strategy Development: function as a trusted advisor, influencing business strategy to drive Future State architecture definition. Translate business strategy into technology strategy by understanding technology and vendor capabilities.
  • Establish the Future State Architecture: The future state architecture establishes a multi-year vision for technology with actionable plans and roadmaps to realize the vision.
  • Define the Reference Architecture: Create and maintain a domain specific reference Architecture. This consists of enterprise-wide principles, standards, patterns, and practices.
  • Assess Solutions for Alignment: Assess candidate architecture for alignment with future state architecture. Additionally, demonstrate political awareness, understanding of trade-offs, risk management, and how to provide effective feedback.
  • Monitor and Evaluate Technology and Trends: Maintain a solid understanding of changes in technology; this includes how changes impact other technologies. Additionally maintain an awareness of emerging technology trends and assesses the implications of those trends.

Specific types of experience or skills required:

  • Technical Literacy: Possess a high level of technical literacy, which helps inform both the future state architecture and reference architecture. Moreover, technical literacy ensures a thorough assessment of candidate architectures as well as sound advice and consultation.
  • Analytical Assessment: continually assess technology and business trends and apply insights to architectural decisions.
  • Leadership: experienced with either formal or informal leadership roles the following keys skills influencing, motivation, and consensus building.
  • Communication: excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience communicating with team members, clients, stakeholders, and external vendors.
  • Strategy: Demonstrate strong business acumen and experience in multiple business sectors. Effectively translate business objectives into technology strategy.
  • Health Industry Experience: Demonstrate relevant industry experience in Health industry or a related field with previous roles in leadership, Architecture, Engineering, Product Owner, and/or Security responsibilities.

Specific types of experience or skills preferred:

  • Infrastructure Components: Demonstrate a deep understanding of technology infrastructure components including network, security, server, storage, database, application, and end-user tools/compute. Additionally, demonstrate how these components are interconnected to deliver value to the organization.
  • Cloud Service(s): Firm understanding of cloud infrastructure and service delivery models (e.g. IAAS, PAAS, SAAS). Additionally, demonstrate how cloud infrastructure and services are migrated to, used, and assembled to deliver value to the organization.
  • Hybrid & Geographic Diversity: Strong understanding of infrastructure critical for hybrid and geographically diverse workforce and systems. This includes regional, national, and international infrastructure.
  • Automation: Proven experience with broad scale infrastructure automation including provisioning, scaling, resilience, and self-service. Additionally, demonstrate an ability to make automation accessible to technology and business teams.
  • Security: Understand the import role security plays in the design of technology infrastructure systems. Trusted partner of an IT security practice through joint design, planning, response, and oversight activities. Additionally demonstrate experience with security frameworks and regulatory compliance (e.g. HIPAA).
  • Technology Rationalization: Demonstrate an ability to drive technology rationalization through the standardization of components, systems, and tools. Additionally guide rationalization of technology & infrastructure during partnership, merger and/or acquisition activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field
  • 10 years of related work experience beyond degree

This position is a hub role which requires an employee to occasionally come onsite to the Minnetonka or Madison office or applicable heads-up work. Frequency is determined by business need as decided by leadership.
