The mission of CNA's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function is to build upon an established risk management framework to support the achievement of the company's strategic goals. In order to do this, the ERM function collaborates with the business areas to integrate effective risk management practices across all areas of the business. The ERM function establishes an enterprise-wide view of acceptable risk levels and aggregates, models, and evaluates exposures across all areas of the business.
We are looking to add a consultant to the team to perform economic and financial research and analysis for use in the development of business strategies and decision-making. In this role, you will participate in discussions with business leaders to develop economic forecasts of business conditions and trends, which may include statistical studies, and analyzing results. You will also support and/or lead moderately complex financial analysis projects. This role also provides broad exposure to business leaders in all areas of the business as you serve as a supporting member of risk committees and/or working groups.
In this position, you will enjoy a hybrid work schedule that consists of one day per week in our Chicago office, with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
  • Lead scenario and stress testing, including assumption setting, and collaborates with Corporate Development on rating agency model results.
  • Supports risk committees and working groups by performing analysis, researching external guidance, and recommending best practices for governance structures.
  • Performs research and analysis on emerging risk topics and collaborates with First Line business partners to provide informed risk reporting.
  • Prepares, analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial reports. Determines reporting requirements, anomalies, trends and necessary analysis.
  • Develops and maintains the Key Risk Indicator (KRI) database and analyzes results and trends to support First Line management.
  • Performs quarterly risk reporting for senior management and the Audit Committee. Provides input and development of risk topics and prepares presentation materials.
  • May reconcile and maintain the financial analysis databases and related processes.
  • Interacts with and supports a wide range of business partners and stakeholders, including Senior and Executive Management.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of or ability to learn the property & casualty insurance industry and underwriting principles.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and/or statutory accounting principles.
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve issues of a complex nature under limited guidance.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work in a dynamic environment and respond to shifting priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively. Must be results oriented with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and assume responsibility for informing decisions made by Senior Management.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners, including Senior and Executive Management.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems, including processing systems and applications.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • CPA, CFA, CMA or professional insurance designation preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of related financial analysis experience in financial analysis, accounting, consulting, or strategy related experience.
