A Consultant, Software Engineer position is being opened on our internal Nationwide Tech Consulting team reporting through Cloud Operations, in Infrastructure & Operations organization. As one of Nationwide's senior level Application Development positions, ideal candidates will have demonstrated strong problem solving and communication skills, be self-driven and innovative. Credibility and influence are critical traits for Consultants as they are frequently asked to present emerging and evolving technology topics to Nationwide Senior Leadership.
This role is responsible for:
Ushering in new technologies and growing adoption
Uplifting and accelerating development teams across the enterprise
Setting standards for code development
Solving/debugging critical issues
Acting as a mentor
Bringing consistency in development of quality code
In addition, candidates must be in tune with industry trends and be tasked with driving maturity and innovation forward across a wide number of existing and emerging technologies.
The primary focus of this engineering role is Data Integration and Analytics. Sought out candidates are expected to be capable of hands-on development and will have demonstrated these abilities by being current and active contributors to codebases and production systems for one or more of the following: DataBricks, Snowflake, Spark, Informatica, Python, Perl. Tableau, PowerBI, Microstrategy, WebFocus are nice to have as well. Strong AWS/K8S, pipelines, Splunk, New Relic skills are also recommended.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics or related field is strongly preferred.
Experience: Six years of experience in programming and systems analysis. Three years of experience in project management is preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Hands-on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction. Proficiency in one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle sophisticated business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
