Job Description
Agile Six is looking for an Enterprise UX Coach to support human centered design teams and practices across our entire enterprise portfolio. We don’t have VPs in our trust-based, people-first culture; however, this role will have an organizational impact equivalent to that of a Vice President of Design within a traditional company structure. The Enterprise UX Coach at Agile Six will have the unique opportunity to help shape a different kind of company - one that is human-centric and values-driven.
This is a chance to influence HCD practices and outcomes on some of the most important and impactful programs in government, including helping Veterans find and access benefits on VA.gov, modernizing the Medicare payment system, guiding human centered design in the Quality Payment Program at CMS, and supporting the next generation of pandemic readiness at the CDC.
The RoleIn this role, you will have the opportunity to leverage your deep expertise in human-centered research and design to support a range of different functions, including project delivery as a contributing team member and/or practice coach, business development efforts, and recruiting and hiring. You will also support teams in the role of team coach, where you will support the cultivation of healthy teams that follow Agile Six core values.
This role is a combination of hands-on project work and enterprise level coaching and support. The balance between these two types of work will likely evolve over time, initially starting with greater emphasis on project work, and likely evolving to include greater emphasis on enterprise coaching work as the company continues to grow.
ResponsibilitiesSupport and Strengthen Human-Centered Design (HCD) Practitioners and Practices at Agile Six:
- Create accessible, human-centered solutions on cross functional delivery teams through activities such as user research, design, and usability testing.
- Provide coaching and guidance to other HCD practitioners regarding HCD tools, methods, best practices, etc.
- Support the creation of templates, models, and other reusable artifacts to support HCD activities across the company.
- Lead and support the recruitment and hiring of HCD-related positions within Agile Six.
- Support business development and other strategic initiatives as needed, including:
- Identify work that aligns with Agile Six values.
- Help Agile Six acquire this work through building relationships with agency stakeholders and potential partners.
- Support project acquisition through research on specific problems or solutions, writing and/or reviewing sections of proposals, participating in presentation panels, and participating in code and design challenges.
- Support a smooth transition from procurement to delivery by providing relevant context, background knowledge, and domain expertise gained during the procurement process to delivery personnel, and/or participating directly in the early stages of delivery.
- Support the effective integration of human-centered design principles and work into agile team workflows.
- Provide leadership to and regularly participate in the HCD Community of Practice at Agile Six.
Support delivery teams as a team coach:
- Along with other practice-area coaches, serve as a “Team Coach” to one or more delivery teams as needed.
- Support the cultivation of healthy relationships, team dynamics, and team cultures that align with Agile Six core values.
- Support teams in aligning with principles of how we work at Agile Six, including such things as:
- Building inclusive, caring, trust-based teams.
- Supporting and encouraging inclusive communication.
- Supporting self-organizing teams.
- Providing support via advice rather than direction.
- Assist team members in identifying and accessing enterprise support resources, including other Enterprise Support personnel.
- Participate in regular project delivery meetings with the Delivery Manager and Account Strategist.
- At least 10 years of experience working in research, design, or content-related roles.
- At least 5 years of experience providing leadership within HCD practices at an organization (VP of Design, Director of Design, Lead Designer, Lead UX Researcher, etc.).
- Significant experience delivering HCD solutions and outcomes within a cross-functional team.
- Broad and deep professional experience with HCD – i.e. in-depth experience with a wide range of HCD activities, tools, concepts, and frameworks.
- Experience supporting the recruiting, evaluation, and hiring of HCD practitioners at all levels.
- Significant experience providing mentorship and/or coaching to other HCD practitioners.
- Solid understanding of how HCD activities support and work alongside other practice areas in delivery, including engineering, solution analysis, product ownership, delivery management, and quality assurance.
- Has lived and worked in the United States for 3 of the last 5 years.
- US Veteran
- Experience working in or with government agencies.
- Experience providing advice and/or coaching in support of team health, trust-based relationships, self-management, and/or other principles that support Agile Six's unique culture. Some examples of frameworks that might be valuable include:
- Agile
