Entertainment Critic

Job Description

The Entertainment Critic will write and report on the world of entertainment—from streaming video to sports to music to celebrity culture, with a particular focus on streaming, television and film. With a fearless attitude and a standout style, the Critic will be an integral part of The Daily Beast’s award-winning entertainment team.

The ideal candidate will have a high news metabolism and a proven ability to write compelling reviews, profiles, and features with flair and wit. The candidate should also bring a sophisticated understanding of popular culture, broadly defined—and how it intersects with politics, race, power, money, and identity. 

Responsibilities

• Write reviews and features with sharp perspective and unique style.
• Cover the latest releases for films, TV and streaming series, and albums. 
• Elevate cultural obsessions for the reader with a keen understanding of the conversations around certain shows and releases. 

• Contribute to breaking news coverage of major events.

Qualifications

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple projects and deadlines.
• Willingness to collaborate with other reporters, editors, and media partners.
• Strong reporting and writing skills.
• In-depth knowledge of the television and movie industries
• Voracious consumption of entertainment and pop culture.
• A self-starter who can conceive and execute stories with impact.
• An understanding of pressing topics for diverse cultures, communities, and racial and ethnic identities.
• Flexible location
• 4+ years of experience

The pay range for this position is: $90,000 to $100,000/year. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, performance and other factors. The range listed is just one component of The Daily Beast’s total compensation package for employees.
