This role will support product design efforts for IBM Z systems software. Our software is utilized by the world's largest enterprises, delivering security, resiliency, performance, scalability, and sustainability through IBM's flagship enterprise compute platform.
As designers, we focus on ensuring the experiences we create meet the needs of our customers and end users and strive for design excellence in our work. You will apply a user-centered perspective to your design work and advocate for the customer / end user in all interactions with your teammates and colleagues. At times you may also engage with customers or other users of the product in the design process.
Content designers create and communicate meaning throughout product or service experiences for users and customers. They primarily do this through researching the subject(s), writing, curating, and editing content for accuracy, clarity, and usability. They help people understand the value of IBM solutions and guide users with messaging that helps them achieve their goals across the product experience.
Functional Responsibilities
- Model, write, and format content into viable, feasible, and desirable solutions with attention given to accuracy, clarity, and usability
- Evaluate and design for the interactions between language and design elements to construct a logical, compelling narrative throughout user/client journey
- Research and study the subject and context to inform content
- Define and apply consistent voice and tone throughout content journey
- Define content goals and journeys based on user or customer goals
- Participate in concept ideation informed by an understanding of users, clients, and their desired outcomes.
- Adapt work and processes according to guidance and direction from design leads.
- Strengthen your craft skills in your discipline through learning, mentorship, and producing.
Cross-Functional Responsibilities
- Attend client / sponsor user sessions; establish your own client relationships.
- Contribute to the design of a product by advocating for the user experience and value.
- Learn about the org structure and key stakeholders of your PM and dev teams
- Seek and provide feedback on outcomes to your entire team.
- Support advocacy of design thinking across the team.
- Communicate with other designers and your cross-functional team about your project status.
- Attend and participate in design reviews and playbacks to share experience design and related artifacts.
- Understand how your work fits into the department mission, strategy, and vision.
Other Strategic Responsibilities:
- Grow domain knowledge by learning the value proposition of your product, its market position, the basics of its technologies and how it's used by our customers.
- Develop enough domain fluency to contribute ideas that differentiate the solution in the market.
- Attend and participate in design and product-oriented activities, such as stand-ups, Town Halls, product demos or design critiques.
- Develop the ability to find and apply relevant industry references/trends.
- Identify improvement opportunities at the individual product level

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience in solving complex user problems through user experience design, including writing content for product experiences.
- Experience with creating user scenarios for usability testing, analysis of industry trends, task analysis and reporting conclusions in well-developed documents.
- Experience with design tools (Figma, Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.).
- Strong communication, storytelling and documentation skills.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, team based environment
- Experience of planning and facilitating workshops to reach a specific outcome;
- Ability to help people understand the value of solutions with clarity and consistency.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Excellent communication skills with a passion for great storytelling
- Foundational understanding of UX design and design research
- Excellent collaboration skills with a persistent curiosity
- Attention to detail in the language and relationships of design elements in the experience
- Localizing content for specific audiences and markets
- Basic research skills to measure and analyze efficacy of content
- Degree in Writing, English, Journalism, Communication, Information Design, or related field
