Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking an entry level Instrumentation and Controls Engineering in Training, to join our Energy and Resources Team.
You will have the opportunity to join our Integrated Design team providing project design support through our entire Energy and Resources operating unit. This includes exposure to industry sectors such as Power Generation and Distribution, Oil & Gas, Mining, and the rapidly growing renewable energy sector and energy transition projects across North America.
As an Instrumentation Engineer in Training, your role is to work with direct supervision and general direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of a senior Technologist or Engineer.
Your Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of an I&C Engineer / Technologist or Team Lead, assist with engineering design activities for projects of various sizes and complexity. Complete tasks as assigned in a timely, thorough, and organized manner. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports.
- Collaborates with other disciplines (process, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Prepares instrumentation datasheets, and procurement support documents.
- Executes technical bid evaluations (TBE's) for equipment.
- Assists in the review of vendor drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information
- Assists in the preparation and coordination of project specifications and related documents.
- Completes required calculations for instrument sizing, material selection, etc. using appropriate engineering methodology and principles.
- Development of wiring and panel drawings, instrument installation details, etc
- Assists in P&ID development input and support.
- Participates in HAZOP and other process safety assessment, evaluation, and design sessions.
- Participates in constructability reviews.
- Assists in development of Control system equipment specifications and material requisition development.
- Assists in development of Construction Work Packages (CWP's).
- Participates in site visits and field engineering work.
- Understands and works within Stantec's project delivery, and quality control guidelines.
- Complies with Stantec's EH&S program, with a focus on safety in the field. Ensure all work is completed with safety of paramount concern.
- Applies appropriate codes, specifications, and standards (both legislated and client-specific).
Qualifications

- Registration as an EIT is preferred.
- Recognizes when issues or problems are developing and communicates to Lead for corrective actions.
- Checks own work for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engages in creative and critical thought.
- Understands instrumentation and controls engineering concepts and can effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Possesses a strong desire to learn and work in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective communication in a remote 'work-from-home' scenario.
- Capable to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Proven problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Willing to go the 'extra mile' to support projects, clients, and fellow employees.
- Familiarity with industry standards and applicable ISA, National Electrical Code, IEEE and Industry codes and standards is considered an asset.
- Field or fabrication shop experience is considered an asset.
- Intools (SPI) experience is an asset.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, and AutoCAD is an asset.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation and Controls / Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):
Salary Range(s):
62,800.00 - 87,900.00 (CA, CO locations only)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
