Job Description

4M Research, Inc. (4M) is a Woman owned small business established in 2007 and headquartered in Huntsville, AL. 4M specializes in Systems and Software Engineering and Analysis, Information Technology, Planning and Analysis, and Field Support Services to a variety of customers including MDA, NASA, and AMCOM. Our continuous and rapid growth is attributable to the caliber of employees 4M strives to hire and retain.

4M is currently seeking an Environment Modeling V&V Engineer for our location in Huntsville, AL.

The candidate will support MDA/SEU Systems Verification, who has been designated the MDA modeling and simulation verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A) agent. Specifically, the candidate will perform threat model verification and validation (V&V) analysis to assess suitability for defined "intended uses" in Hardware-in-the-Loop [HWIL] and all digital Missile Defense System (MDS) simulation testing environments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will support M&S VV&A for Defense of Guam test case scenarios, particularly as it pertains to conventional and hypersonic cruise missiles and their associated environmental perturbation factors (e.g., terrain, atmospheric ducting, ionized plasma sheaths)
  • In addition to the hypersonic and cruise missile specific environments, the candidate may be asked to support the verification and validation (V&V) of Core Truth Model (CTM) libraries containing models that represent a wide variety of environmental states / effects (e.g., atmospheric profiles, gravity, radiofrequency effects [lens loss, clear air absorption, refraction, scintillation]).
  • The candidate will participate in the monthly Defense of Guam test and evaluation working group.
  • The ideal candidate will have familiarity / knowledge with analyzing threat characteristics across all disciplines: kinematic, radar cross section (RCS), and electro-optical / infrared (EO/IR).
  • The candidate will perform comparative threat model analysis assessing how well the model satisfies defined performance parameters within acceptability criteria tolerances.
  • The ideal candidate will also have some experience with Optical Signature Code (OSC) electro-optical / infrared (EO/IR) signature modeling to facilitate working with new features (e.g., non-axisymmetric shapes, hypersonic flowfield heating, etc.) being added to address the hypersonic cruise missile threat.
  • The candidate should have a strong analysis background and be able to lead / work with small teams dedicated to the verification and validation (V&V) of assigned environment models, so a background in atmospheric sciences is a plus.

Requirements:

  • BS/MS in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related technical disciplines
  • A SECRET clearance is required, but a TOP SECRET clearance is a plus.
  • Software development familiarity desired, to include Matlab and/or Python.
  • Knowledge of the Linux operating system is a definite asset.
  • The candidate must be able to work in an open, collaborative environment and have good written / spoken communication skills.
  • The candidate must be willing to research technical papers and identify relevant measurement data to become the de-facto V&V expert for an assigned environment model, coming up to speed quickly on the physical theory and mathematical equations that constitute the representation.

Qualified candidates should apply online at or call 256-319-4646 for assistance.
