Environmental and Future Engineering Activities Manager

Summary: Subaru Corporation (SBR) has created a new group in North American Subaru, Inc. (NASI) to support their future business strategies in the areas of United States environmental and electric vehicle regulations. Working closely with the Vice President (VP), will be the lead and most senior local staff member responsible for developing the organization's operational strategies and structure in relation to areas of focus. Researches environmental regulatory trends and related policies and critical future technologies, especially electric vehicles (EV), for NASI and SBR.

Responsibilities:

• Closely monitors and evaluates ZEV (zero-emissions vehicle), greenhouse gas (GHG) and Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulatory trends within federal and state governments.
• Collects and understands environmental regulations and policy developments on important future technologies such as electric vehicles (EV) and autonomous driving and prepares risk assessment analysis and reports for SBR and NASI with recommendations.
• Works with SBR to develop policies and operating plans to address aforementioned regulatory, technological, and automotive industry trends. Provides information, analysis and recommendations to NASI management, Policy Affairs team, and SBR head office departments.
• Gathers information and trends related to EV infrastructure, financing, subsidies, and tax incentive programs in order to inform company policies and practices.
• Participates and attends meetings including industry-related conferences, prepares materials and presentations with supporting recommendations for meetings as well as post-meeting notes, and reports information to NASI and SBR on regulatory issues related to ZEV, GHG, CAFE, and other important future vehicle technologies.

• Creates responses to SBR headquarters' inquiries or requests for clarification of regulatory impact to ensure that SBR has full understanding of the regulations and the effect of non-compliance.
• Works with VP in planning and management for the newly developing team.
• Serves as main subject matter point of contact for the DC Office Policy Affairs team in matters related to ZEV, EV, GHG, CAFÉ, etc.
• Prepares risk hedging assessments (joint work with VP) of current and potential significant issues and shares information with related departments such as the Quality Control (QC) team.

• Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations (ZEV, GHG, CAFE) and certification procedures and government regulation processes.
• Extensive experience in motor vehicles industry.
• Deep knowledge and understanding of advanced safety, connectivity, and automated vehicle technologies.
• Strong written and oral communication skills (presentation skills).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Excellent independent decision-making ability.
• Ability to travel up to 15% of time
• Willingness to lobby, certication with government and industry groups will be required
