Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist II
As a Health & Safety Specialist II, establish, implement and oversee effective health and safety programs that ensure Ball Aerospace compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory requirements and internal best practices. These include, but are not limited to safety and health plans, hazard and risk assessment, general lab safety, electrical safety, crane operator and rigging, OSHA recordkeeping, ergonomics assessments, indoor air quality, pressure safety, cryogenic safety, management of asbestos containing materials, fall protection, and handling and transportation of hazardous materials.
What You'll Do:
- Represent Health and Safety (HS) as the point-of-contact and subject matter expert for several health and safety programs, specifically, fall protection, confined space, forklift and, crane operator and rigging programs, and application of safety management software tools.
- Develop and deliver health and safety training.
- Provide program and project oversight to ensure environmental, health and safety requirements are being met and associated work plans and procedures are being followed.
- Draft and revise Ball Aerospace health and safety policies, programs, standards, and work instructions.
- Support industrial hygiene (IH) monitoring and exposure assessments including, but not limited to, air sampling, airflow measurements and noise surveys. IH surveys may be an emergency situation, new process or chemistry, or as part of a routine IH program.
- Develop procedures/controls to eliminate or minimize potential exposures including engineering controls, review, and approval of new chemical products, and assigning proper personal protective equipment.
- Establish, conduct, and/or oversee periodic health and safety inspections at Ball Aerospace facilities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Proactively address non-compliant situations by coordinating with area management to develop timely solutions.
- Review, interpret and comment (when appropriate) on new and proposed health and safety regulations (federal, state, and local) for impact on Ball Aerospace operations.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You'll Need:
- BS/BA in a related field plus 4 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Degree in health and safety, science/engineering preferred.
- Collaborative, team-oriented work ethic with outstanding communication skills.
- Progressive experience in the health and safety discipline including demonstrated leadership.
- Knowledge of current health and safety regulatory requirements.
- Progression toward a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is desirable.
Flexible On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for three or more days per work week. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
Working Conditions:

- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
A current DoD clearance and/or SCI access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $69,000 - $93,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
