As the Environmental Manager, you will be responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and managing the efforts of the people and the processes involved in the development and implementation of plant environmental compliance programs in support of company standards, and applicable regulations.
In this role you will conduct inspections of both our Livermore and Hayward locations to ensure applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations are being met. You will be responsible for maintaining environmental compliance and activities for GILLIG manufacturing operations and warehouses.
As the Environmental Manager, you will have frequent communication with other departments and plant and warehouse personnel in Manufacturing and Warehouse facilities. You will report to the Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety.
- Provide environmental support to plant staff.
- Manage environmental programs to assure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations including but not limited to permitting, hazardous and non-hazardous wastes collection and disposal and storm water management.
- Review all environmental programs for compliance with current OSHA/CalOSHA regulations.
- Develop, implement and track employee environmental training in support of written programs.
- Maintain file copies of permits for all facilities.
- Air Permit: paint booth usage, weekly inspections, monthly data summaries, quarterly, annual, and triennial data submissions, and permit review/modification/renewal every 5 years.
- Wastewater Permit: partner with external vendor with on periodic water testing and data submissions, and permit review/modification/renewal every 5 years
- Stormwater: partner with external vendor with quarterly inspections, annual testing and report submissions, annual stormwater plan review, and permit review/modification/renewal every 5 years
- EPCRA (Community Right to Know Act): Annual data collection and submission of inventory report (Tier II) and usage report (TRI Form R/Form A)
- Hazardous, Universal, and Special Waste: Management of waste collection and disposal, annual review of Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan, submission of annual reports; maintain and develop profiles for all hazardous and special wastes; coordinating waste shipments and management of data for these.
- Maintain profiles of hazardous wastes and non-hazardous wastes; update every three years or when profiles change.
- Using plant-specific checklists collect and evaluate permit data monthly to determine compliance.
- Work with local environmental coordinators to submit periodic permit reporting and renewals as needed; to update and review plans (Stormwater, Spill Control, and Contingency Plans) for permits; and to confirm generators status monthly.
- Evaluate chemical usage with local environmental coordinators to determine when Toxic Release Inventory (TRI Form A/Form R) reports are needed and submit them on time.
- Ensure local environmental coordinators submit Inventory reports (Tier I/Tier II) on time.
- Coordinate efforts with Corporate Manufacturing Engineering on permit requirements and changes due to equipment changes or expansions at individual facilities.
- Perform cost analysis and justification of environmental management projects.
- Act as Environmental representative for external audits.
- Subject matter expert for MSDS records.
- Coordinate training and support of SDS, GHS, and chemical labeling systems and education for manufacturing facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, Industrial and Systems Engineering, or similar degrees. Non-degree holders will be considered only with substantial experience in the field.
- Experience with reviewing and determining status environmental permits and MSDSonline or other online SDS management programs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; EHS database systems.
- Data collection and entry using state or federal environmental systems.
- Attentive to detail and consistency.
- Ability to interact with upper management.
- Knowledge of ISO, 5S, and BBS.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk, and occasionally kneel or squat
- Spend 60% time in an office environment (frequently sit collecting data and operating a computer), and 40% of time in manufacturing environment.
- May be exposed to possible shop hazards including noise, chemicals heavy machinery and shop traffic. When responding to emergencies, may be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
- Fast, changing environment with minimal direction from Manager, Labor Standards/Environmental.
- Some local travel required between our Livermore and our Hayward locations
- Standard start time: 5:00 AM
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits Â
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
