Executive Communications, Senior Associate
Job Description
The Office of the CEO is looking for a Senior Associate in Executive Communications with at least 5 years of experience in Communications. The New York office is operating under a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).
About the role
The Founder and CEO of Acumen has specific and high-volume communications needs that span media, speechwriting, presentation building, thought leadership, event preparation, social media, and internal communications. This senior associate-level role will work in the Office of the CEO focusing primarily on CEO Communications. The role will coordinate with the Communications team. Accountabilities include:
Foundational:
- Understand the foundational POV of the CEO, understand her voice. Understand the principles that will guide communication across channels.
- Execute the communications strategy for the Office of the CEO that is aligned with brand, marketing, and fundraising goals.
- Partner with Acumen senior leaders to find and capture the stories that reflect Acumen’s mission and support the organization’s core narrative.
Media:
- Draft op-eds and other media materials as needed, in partnership with Acumen’s communications team.
- Manage inbound media requests and liaise with journalists and producers.
- Support the relationship with Acumen’s third-party media agency and partner with them on in-scope communications needs, particularly around key events. (including COP)
Speaking Engagements:
- Brief and prepare the CEO for all speaking engagements and appearances, spanning podcasts, conferences, keynote addresses, graduation speeches, panel discussions, etc. (Who is the audience? What do they care about? What is our POV?) and maintain and track CEO’s speaking engagements calendar.
- Track important events and secure CEO engagement where it will move Acumen’s strategy forward. Handle non-strategic invitations in ways consistent with Acumen’s values.
- Manage logistics and communications for engagements, e.g. corresponding with organizers, joining prep calls, etc.
- Own the creation of presentation materials (primarily PPT) for relevant speaking engagements.
Social Media:
- Own and execute (with support from the Communications team) social media content and campaigns on CEO’s social media channels, with a priority focus on Instagram and LinkedIn
- Build and maintain CEO’s social media content calendar and regularly audit channels to refine strategic approach
Internal Communications:
- Support CEO communications and engagement with Acumen employees, e.g. through messages to staff and All-Staff Calls.
- Coordinate with Communications and Development and Partnerships teams on communications needs from CEO for reports, newsletters, etc.
- Regularly speak employees for storytelling opportunities
Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Communications.
- Excellent writing, editing, and narrative development with an ability to craft compelling story arcs and adapt messaging and format to different audiences.
- Ability to “break through the noise” in the evolving landscape of media channels and cultural conversations, with an eye for identifying significant, new opportunities.
- Excellent project and stakeholder management skills, often working under tight deadlines. The Office of the CEO is a hub of multiple stakeholders and conflicting priorities. This role is about organizing the chaos, choosing a coherent path forward, and gaining agreement.
- Negotiation skills…a point of view, an ability to prioritize, an ability to communicate a “no” with grace, an ability to make requests.
- Ability to turn on a dime, when needed.
- An ability to handle confidential matters and information with discretion.
- Self-reflective and aligned with Acumen values.
- Permanent work authorization in the US.

The salary range for this role is $61,000-$74,900 and is eligible for a performance-based bonus. This range represents the present low and high end of pay range for this role. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to experience. Acumen has equal pay, so pay is determined through comparison to a cohort of employees in the market at the same level of accountability.
