Executive Director, Data Engineering

The Executive Director of Data Engineering is a visionary member of the Data Driven Marketing (DDM) leadership team with deep experience managing high-performing teams of data engineers. This individual is a data whisperer, thriving on continuously re-thinking the way data can be more efficiently extracted, transformed and loaded for easier use, better decision making, and faster product / insight development. The Head of Data Engineering is customer obsessed and is an expert in using the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform and its related solutions to meet internal and external customer needs.

Job Responsibilities:

• Act as a visionary and strategic planner for data engineering innovations / advancements across database architecture, design, querying and data warehousing
• Provide strategic and operating plans for the data engineering function, focusing on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Platform
• Provide leadership and management for 10-15+ data engineering FTEs, including talent identification, team development and mentoring
• Work to ensure alignment of people, processes, products and systems across data engineering and cross-functional partners
• Support team in / perform day-to-day data engineering functions, engineer the building of ETL and custom data pipelines, data quality analysis and collaborate with business and technical teams to troubleshoot and solve for data quality concerns
• Agile / scrum development processes

Basic Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Bachelor's and 8 years or Master's and 6 years, 5 years of people leadership.

• 8 years of experience as a data engineer, with an emphasis on building ETL and custom data pipelines
• 5 years of experience with managing data engineering teams, including talent identification, team development and mentoring
• 3 years of experience with the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud platform (additional experience in GCP and Azure also encouraged)
• Experience in database architecture, design, querying and data warehousing
• Experience using relational database technologies, including SQL, across more than one database platform
• Experience in performing data governance / data quality analysis and collaborating with business and technical teams to troubleshoot and solve for data quality concerns
• Experience in project management and working with cross-functional teams
• Experience working in Python (additional scripting languages also encouraged)
• Experience with building stable, scalable solutions utilizing various Cloud services (e.g., Glue, Athena, API gateway, Redshift Spectrum, S3, Lambda, EC2, etc.)
• Excellent understanding of agile / scrum development processes
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills for executive collaboration; fluent in English
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or other relevant field
• AWS certification required; additional relevant cloud certifications encouraged

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Masters Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

Experience: 10 years in Data Engineering

• Experience working with integration tools (Tibco, IICS, etc.)
• Experience with visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau)
• Experience with source code management tools (Bitbucket, GitHub)
• Experience with project management and service management tools (JIRA, Service Now)
• Experience working with regulated data (FCRA / consumer credit)
• Experience with compliance and infosec
