Executive Director, Medical Science

Position Summary:

Collaborates with departmental leadership to oversee the implementation of initiatives and activities to improve the operations for the Medical organization and to ensure alignment with operational initiatives across Precision for Medicine businesses. The Executive Director, Medical Science will be accountable for working with departmental leaders to identify needs, plan strategic initiatives, oversee tactical execution, and develop broad engagement and buy-in for improving the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Medical organization.

Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:

• Medical monitoring functionality
• Serve as a resource for medical monitors with the objective of identifying challenges to the performance of medical monitoring activities
• Lead internal communication regarding progress updates, performance issues, and obstacles to achieving business objectives or critical program and project completion
• Medical Science processes – internal and interdepartmental
• Work with Medical team and leaders to identify and prioritize areas for operational improvement within Medical and link when relevant across PfM
• Lead the development of tools for enhanced team communication
• Collaborate with Clinical Operations colleagues to identify areas for process improvement
• Support interaction between Medical Science and other Precision departments as a component of raising visibility of our medical experts
• Business development
  • Support process improvement initiatives for medical support of proposals and bid defense meetings
  • Serve as a scientific resource for medical subject matter experts in the context of providing medical considerations for proposals
  • Support client meetings in collaboration with business directors
  • Support communication of a vision of excellent client relationships where Precision is considered a trusted partner to the client
• Resource management
  • Support management of resources at the direction of department leadership
  • Support process improvement for resource management
  • Contribute to the oversight of medical support services outsourced to independent contractors
• Other areas of engagement
  • The scope of this role will evolve as new issues arise that are well-matched to the experience and skill set required for the role.

Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience in science or health-related field. Advanced degree preferred.
• A minimum 15 years of experience in clinical research, including extensive project management and line management experience or proven competencies for this position
• Working knowledge of GCP/ICH guidelines and the clinical development process

Other Required:

• Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with others in a team setting
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a customer service demeanor
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally including overnight stays

Preferred:

• Advanced degree
• Experience in managing complex and global trials
