*This is a full time internship position and will require the student take a semester off of school. We are open to having someone join us from January through July or from June through December 2023.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Extended Investment Intern will work with Structured, Credit (Public and Private), and Municipal teams in a floating capacity to support portfolio reporting and fixed income research. The Intern will gain a broad knowledge of Investments through hands on training and projects.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field of study. Completion of Business 101 coursework preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains, updates, and creates investment reports for the portfolios of American Equity, while ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Assists the analyst team in fixed income research, which may include updating financial models, tracking covenant compliance, pulling new issue deal documentation, and maintaining research databases.
- Collaborates with the investment and investment operations teams.
- Begins to develop a structured and systematic approach to analyzing investments through hands on training and an investment research project.
- Obtains knowledge of software used for investment analysis, portfolio management, and reporting, such as Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg, Power BI, and Aladdin.
- Obtains general knowledge of fixed income markets and general understanding of finance, economics, accounting, investment, and insurance principles and practices.
- Performs other projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and modeling skills required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Highly detailed-oriented and well organized with strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects on an ongoing basis.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (with an emphasis on Excel).
- Experience with Bloomberg is encouraged.
- Coding knowledge with any graphical package encouraged.
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to comprehend and apply investment related principles of advanced mathematical concepts and theory, statistics, accounting, economics, and other practical solutions.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from coworkers and peers.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
