Job Summary

Kairos Power is looking for a Facilities Assistant to assist the Lead Facilities Technician with a variety of duties and responsibilities at the Kairos Power campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Primary responsibility will be providing facility support for manufacturing activities, R&D testing, laboratory operations, and office/meeting/common areas of the building.  The ideal candidate has excellent customer service skills and is eager to take advantage of opportunities to gain hands-on experience with day-to-day facilities management in a fast-paced startup environment.  The Facilities Assistant will work cross-functionally with other internal departments to support on-site operational needs, including interfacing with and supporting Material Handling, EH&S, IT, HR, Construction Projects, and Administrative Support teams. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with facilities troubleshooting and basic repairs; sometimes self-performance of repair work is required and sometimes coordination for contractor support is needed.
  • Assist the Lead Facilities Technician with project coordination duties on small and medium sized design-build projects to support R&D and manufacturing activities.
  • Purchase materials for facilities maintenance, minor repairs, and upgrades.  Organize materials in storage spaces. 
  • Operate the access control system for troubleshooting badge access problems, activating or deactivating employee ID badges, and coordinating with IT and contractors for repairs.
  • Work with the Construction Projects team to ensure contractors working on site are following project- and site- specific access, service outage/shutdown, and safety plans. 
  • Monitor status of HVAC equipment in the Building Management System (BMS).  Understand how HVAC and MEP systems work normally to be able find and report problems within the various buildings based on alarms and trend information.   
  • Provide back-up support to Shipping & Receiving activities (up to 10-20% of time). 
  • Assist with equipment and furniture moves including furniture configuration, setup, and preparation of office/desk space for new hires.
  • Repair or replace break room equipment as needed (coffee equipment, beverage machines, refrigerators, freezers, dishwasher, etc.).
  • Assist with facilities equipment preventive maintenance record keeping.
  • Monitor and oversee the performance of custodial services and grounds maintenance.
  • Support special event setup and takedown. 
  • Set up, take down, and operate A/V equipment for company meetings and training events. 
  • Run miscellaneous company errands utilizing company vehicles.
  • Synchronize conference room and common area clocks (spring/fall time change and as needed).
  • Participate and fill in for the Lead Facilities Technician for meetings with internal customers, the Construction Projects team, contractors, designers, and inspectors.
  • Escort contractors, inspectors, and consultants on site as needed.  Assist with tours for visitors and facilities project-related site visits. 
  • Support company Covid-19 safety efforts; orient contractors and other visitors to current company Covid-19 protocols. 
  • Assist with corporate housing maintenance service requests. 
  • Perform other facilities and construction coordination duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree desired. At least 1 year of Laboratory or Manufacturing facilities experience highly desired.  
  • Basic computer skills required – Microsoft Windows and Office, iOS, and Zoom
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications is desirable
  • AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu software experience desirable
  • Customer service oriented.  Proficient communication skills (verbal, interpersonal, listening)
  • Flexible; ability to adapt to changing priorities. Team-oriented.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting desirable; previous LOTO experience desirable
  • Understanding of basic HVAC system principles and operation is desired
  • 1-2 years facilities maintenance or coordinator experience desirable
  • Maintain a standard driver’s license in the State of New Mexico for occasional business-related driving around Albuquerque in company vehicles
  • Proficiency in Spanish is desirable, but not required
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to problem solve quickly and efficiently 
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others

Safety and PPE

  • Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
  • Identifying hazardous materials and/or waste to avoid exposure
  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes, hard hat
  • Participation in the company’s Beryllium program (requires baseline medical exam)

Travel

  • Some travel is required (up to 10%)
  • Maintain good standing in driving records and personal Class C driver’s license in the State of New Mexico for occasional business-related driving around the Albuquerque Area is required

Certification

  • Possess or capable of obtaining forklift, scissor lift, and boom lift operator related certification
