Facilities Specialist II / Facilities Specialist III - R&D
Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp's Albuquerque office is a key provider of technical services to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Directed Energy and Space Vehicles directorates located on Kirtland Air Force Base, NM. Our multi-discipline staff provides a broad range of scientific and engineering services, including execution laboratory and field experiments; diagnostics design and development; and laser fabrication, maintenance, and operation. We are seeking qualified personnel to join our science and technology-oriented organization to assist in laboratory facilities maintenance, AF and AFRL compliance, and property management for equipment and systems associated with high energy laser (HEL) systems and HEL tests.
We are seeking a highly motivated person to contribute to our on-going R&D supporting HEL development and testing. The successful candidate will have a broad set of skills useful for implementing and maintaining AF and AFRL quality assurance compliance, supporting readiness and accountability of equipment in support of HEL development and testing, and participating (potentially) in HEL effects testing associated with ongoing research.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel aโnd local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Relocation for this position is available.

What You'll Do:
- Contribute to the development, modification, and implementation of processes and procedures in support of compliance with Federal, Air Force, State and Local regulations associated with operating research and development facilities at Kirtland AFB, NM.
- Perform inspections of assigned facilities and identify and document deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Provide logistical support to ongoing and planned test activities.
- Operate company owned and government vehicles which may include trucks and forklifts.
- Perform and/or support routine periodic maintenance for items such as trucks, forklifts, trailers, mobile chiller systems, cleanrooms, electrostatic discharge (ESD) work areas, machine shop equipment, test measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) and other general laboratory equipment items.
- Review and interpret drawings, instructions, specifications and procedures for setting up, operating, or maintaining equipment.
- Track and facilitate calibration of equipment through AF labs (PMEL), or vendors. This could include providing updates on equipment coming up for calibration, status of equipment out for calibration, and any issues with equipment being calibrated
- Perform a variety of custodial duties including cleaning facilities, moving heavy items (e.g., furniture to test equipment), repairing facilities/equipment, and maintaining laboratory facilities infrastructure.
- Coordinate and prioritize activities with scientists, engineers, project leads, and our AFRL customers in charge of HEL development and test programs.
- Support the management and tracking of TMDE, contract acquired property (CAP), government furnished equipment (GFE), and consumable items.
- Maintain required documentation in accordance with BATC policies and government regulations.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You'll Need:
- Facilities Specialist II - High School diploma or equivalent plus 6 years or more related experience or a related 2-year technical degree and 4 years or more related experience.
- Facilities Specialist III - High School diploma or equivalent plus 8 years or more related experience or a related 2-year technical degree and 6 years or more related experience.
- Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Bachelor's or Master's, may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Basic computer skills to include use of standard software packages such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Office at a minimum.
- Active or in-scope DoD or DoE clearance preferred.
- Familiarity with AF and AFRL instructions as they pertain to quality assurance (QA), logistics management control authority (LMCA), and Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) preferred.
- Knowledge of standard TMDE and periodic maintenance and calibration cycles preferred.
- Clean room operations (standard operating procedures and monitoring) and maintenance experience preferred.
- Electrostatic discharge (ESD) workstation testing and maintenance preferred.
- Familiarity with electronics, i.e., assembly, troubleshooting, repair, cable fabrication preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR FACILITIES SPECIALIST II: $23.08 - $30.29 per hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
- HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR FACILITIES SPECIALIST III: $27.40 - $36.78 per hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
