Failure Analysis Engineer

Support electrical, physical and chemical characterization work in a timely and accurate manner for the electrical and mechanical characteristics of systems and/or integrated circuits, components, sub-components systems to determine the cause of failure, including the verification of analog and digital performance.

Duties and Requirements:

• Participate in cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability, Design, etc.) to solve complex electrical and physical/chemical failure analysis of semiconductor integrated circuits from both external and internal customers, such that root cause of the failure is identified for corrective actions (process, design, application or combination of these), engineering investigations for semiconductor integrated circuit robustness such as reliability qualifications, and stress, during new product development, etc.
• Perform Wet and Dry Chemical deprocessing or parallel polishing of semiconductor integrated circuits to identify or reveal the mechanical, physical and chemical defects.
• Use Microprobing (in ambient and vacuum chamber probe stations or probing tools such as Nano prober) and circuit understanding/debugging to identify and localize the malfunctioning circuit block, circuit nodes and devices within the circuit that will lead to identifying the root cause of the malfunction.
• Analyze complex data (process, material, electrical) to drive to root cause analysis of semiconductor integrated circuit failures.
• Perform electrical fault isolation, physical and chemical characterization of the identified failure defects and develop root cause theories using advanced electrical and physical/chemical analysis tools such as X-ray analysis, Acoustic Microscopy, Light Microscopy, Oscilloscopes, IR microscopy, OBIRCH, photon emission microscopy (PEM), nanoprobing, microprobing, SEM/EDS analysis, Focused Ion beam microscopy, and Liquid Crystal hot spot detection.
• Occasional telecommuting possible.

Additional Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Preferred - Related internship work experience in the operation and application of standard failure analysis tools, including two or more of the following technologies:
  • X-ray analysis
  • Acoustic Microscopy
  • Light Microscopy
  • Oscilloscopes
  • IR microscopy
  • OBIRCH
  • Photon emission microscopy (PEM)
  • SEM/EDS analysis
  • Liquid crystal hot spot detection
