Failure Analysis Senior Member of Technical Staff

The Electronics and Sensors Division (ESD) is a world-class engineering and scientific leader in electronics and remote sensing systems. Our staff in the Parts, Materials & Processes (PM&P) Department includes subject matter experts across a broad range of areas pertaining to electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) parts procurement, qualification, application, anomaly resolution, as well as materials and processes. Our expertise combined with a sophisticated in-house electronic component laboratory deliver innovative analysis and PM&P program management capabilities to national space systems and civil customers.
What You'll Be Doing
- Participate in project management as lead or support to perform failure analysis of electronic components: prepare studies and projects, manage resources and schedules, deliver analytical reports of findings, and present results and recommendations
- Perform testing and evaluation of electronic device failures, using common failure analysis tools and equipment.
- Perform analytical studies for part reliability risk as well as future technology planning and development
- Apply standard electrical characterization techniques, industry standard procedures and criteria for non-destructive and destructive evaluation
- Develop new electrical characterization techniques to meet the challenges of analyzing emerging technologies
- Prepares analytical reports, including preliminary findings and recommendations. Document processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with management, customer, contractor, and/or component supplier personnel during analysis
What You Need To Be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Materials Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related discipline.
- At least 5 years of increasingly responsible and related engineering/scientific experience
- Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct, and execute tasks to solve technical problems
- Experience with using typical Failure Analysis instruments (e.g. scanning electron microscope)
- Prior laboratory experience, in failure analysis of materials and electronic parts using standard equipment and tools (e.g., scanning electron microscope)
- Ability to communicate requirements, deadlines, and priorities to manager, team members, laboratory technicians
- Willingness to occasionally travel and to work off-business hours to support customer needs, approximately 10% (as required)
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SSBI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- An active TS/SSBI security clearance.
- Demonstrated ability to perform construction analysis of non-MIL PRF parts and develop appropriate methods for use in space applications
- Prior experience with electronics testing
- Experience collaborating with contractors, industry working groups, and/or associations such as NASA Electronics Parts Assurance Group, Defense Logistics Agency, Joint Electron Device Engineering Council, Automotive Electronics Council, during the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of active electronic parts for space-related applications

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
