Field Applications Scientist (West Coast USA)

Our mission is to push the boundaries of complex cell analysis. Using the Lightcast platform we are working with major pharmaceutical companies and leading academic institutes. Together, using our next generation microfluidic platform, we are making advances towards new science, unique clinical approaches, new therapies and innovative products.

The Lightcast platform allows precise and highly flexible independent control of thousands of microdroplets independently and in parallel using software-generated light patterns. By combining droplets containing different cells, antibodies, cancer drugs, reporters and /or other reagents we can perform complex workflows and assays with a flexibility far beyond what is currently possible on any cell analysis platform. 

About the role  

We are looking for an experienced Field Application Scientist (FAS) based in Boston to join our team and learn our technology from it’s core. The FAS will be a key part of the commercial team responsible for pre and post-sales support activities across North America, enabling our customers to ensure they are successful. The FAS will have significant interaction with the internal teams at Lightcast and will need to be highly self-motivated and organised. The role will involve travel to our Head office in Cambridge, UK for training and internal meetings. 

Your responsibilities will include:  

• Giving presentations (seminars, conference presentations, workshops and remote/virtual) on Lightcast technologies and products. 
• Conducting product demonstrations at Lightcast sites, customer sites, tradeshows and scientific meetings. 
• Delivering effective trainings to enable new users and ensure rapid adoption and implementation of the Lightcast technology. 
• Providing customers with best in class application support on the Lightcast platform. 
• Developing knowledge and understanding of customer applications; communicating novel applications and publications or presentations. 

• Acting as the voice of customer to provide feedback to internal teams. 
• Assisting customers in designing and conducting experiments and implementing new applications. 
• Reporting any activity related to competitor activities, or, business opportunities as applicable. 
• Travel 50- 75% of time. 

To succeed in this role, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following:  

• Bachelors/MS/Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. 
• 2-5 years customer facing experience as an FAS with a cutting edge technology. 
• Hands on proficiency with common cell and molecular biology bench techniques required; cell culture and flow cytometry/FACS experience is particularly valuable. 
• A great team player with flexibility in mind and willingness to learn 
• Excellent and methodical troubleshooting abilities.
• Must have a “can do” attitude and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent command / highly proficient in spoken and written English.
• Excellent customer facing communication skills both in a pre- and post-sales context.
• Proficiency in conducting scientific presentations to internal and external audiences.
• Ability to build strong and lasting customer relationships.
