Job Duties:
The Field Engineer conducts on-site benchmark testing, post-processing, commissioning, integration, and optimization of both passive and active DAS installations, Public Safety Radio communication systems, and other related in-building solutions. This position involves providing routine system health checks and reports, troubleshooting, site walks, rooftop signal readings, and periodic iBwave design services for internal and external customers as needed.
- Stay current in the knowledge and application of In-Building Solution product implementations and new or emerging technologies.
- Participate, as a technical representative, in project kick-off, status, and team meetings with both internal and external customers.
- Review and provide feedback on system design drawings, project plans, and as-built documentation throughout the design, delivery, implementation, and maintenance support phases.
- System evaluation, reporting, and support of maintenance contract customers.
- Coordinate with Wireless Carrier Providers, AHJs, customers, and other parties as necessary to complete responsibilities in a timely and professional manner.
- Support service and fulfillment in system deployment, programming, commissioning, design changes, and other field service tasks.
- Perform field coverage testing, post-process collected data, and create presentation-quality reports for distribution to customers.
- Document customer information, details of work performed, hours worked, parts used, specific instructions from the customer, and all other items pertaining to the scope of work.
- Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required.
- Adherence to all safety rules and regulations as directed by OSHA, CE, and the job site customer.
- Has the ability to participate in a rotating 24-hour on-call customer maintenance contract program.
- Maintain a safe and neat work area and accurate inventory of tools and test equipment.
- Complete routine work tickets and warranty paperwork in a timely fashion.
- Provide quality checks on all portions of testing and commissioning prior to signing off.
- Establish and maintain a professional rapport with customers, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Participate in training for necessary technologies, policies, and methods of procedure.
- Conduct preventative Maintenance (PM), diagnostics & repair on core products as required.
- Maintain and provide accurate departmental paperwork as requested
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to read electrical and mechanical diagrams.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma and/or graduation from a certified vocational school, an emphasis in electronics, information technology, or related field is preferred.
- Six (6) years of technical work experience in related responsibilities, with at least four (4) years of experience in the DAS, Two-Way Radio/Land Mobile Radio, or similar industry.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the following industry segments: Information Technology (IT), Public Safety and Commercial BDA’s, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), or similar communication systems.
- Working knowledge on the following test equipment: Multimeter, signal generator, cable, and antenna test sets, spectrum analyzer, fiber test set (Power Meter and/or OTDR) – desired but not required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of two-way radio systems and familiarity with testing and quality standards.
- Working knowledge on four (4) or more of the following: Wireless OEMs, Corning, JMA-Teko, SOLiD Technologies, CommScope, Nextivity Cell-Fi, or other DAS and Comba Telecom, ADRF, Cobham Wireless, GST, Westell, or other BDA.
- Ability to obtain security clearances and access badges, as required
- Well-versed in mobile technology standards, propagation modeling, basic antenna theory, basic bi-directional amplifier (BDA) theory, link budgets, passive and active Distributed Antenna System (DAS) design.
- Experience and understanding in commissioning, optimization, integration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of oDAS and iDAS installations
- Be proficient with and pursue Level 1 certification for the iBwave design platform.
- Proficient with computer applications as required and eager to learn new technologies.
- Demonstrates self-motivation, maturity, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S., EngineeringÂ
- Previous Supervisor and/or Team Lead experience.
- Certification in one of the following: Corning, JMA-Teko, SOLiD Technologies, CommScope, Nextivity Cell-Fi, or other DAS and Comba Telecom, ADRF, Cobham Wireless, GST, Westell, or other BDA.
