Field Machinist
Job Description
About the Role
As a Field Machinist Technician, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality service to our customers. This position requires strong technical expertise in machining operations and the ability to work in dynamic field environments. You will perform repairs and maintenance using manual machine tools and portable equipment, often under time-sensitive and physically demanding conditions.
Responsibilities
• Set up and operate the following machine tool types:
• Lathes – vertical and conventional
• Milling machines – horizontal boring mills, vertical milling machines, and portable milling equipment
• Drills
• Hand honing tools
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Apply shop mathematics, use charts/tables, and understand fasteners, threads, and taps.
• Use and maintain precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, scales, etc.).
• Machine parts to tight tolerances with high accuracy.
• Perform mechanical repairs in field settings under varying environmental conditions.
• Conduct and review safety analyses and adhere to all safety policies.
• Maintain and properly care for tools, equipment, and machines.
• Keep current with required training, certifications, and job qualifications.
• Follow company and industry standards for quality and safety.
• Work rotating shifts and participate in on-call assignments as needed.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 years of machining experience.
• Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and machining to close tolerances.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Must provide your own hand tools and measuring equipment.
• Ability to travel domestically for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
• Reliable attendance and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work overtime, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable working at heights (up to 300 feet), in confined spaces, and in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, noise, dust, etc.).
Work Schedule & Environment
• Availability to work 24/7, including emergency callouts and planned/unplanned outages.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, dust, humidity, and confined or elevated spaces.
• Daily climbing of turbine towers and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and hard hats.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
