The Field Operations teams (FOps) support Wired and Wireless customer installation, network construction/expansion, repair and maintenance of GFiber’s network on a  rotating schedule. The Field Operations Manager I position will oversee all field support for the local operation, including planning, scheduling and coordination of all team activities. The position shall manage Construction Technicians, OSP and ISP Plant Maintenance Technicians.

Role Description

The Field Operations (FOps) team is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing residential and small business services. The Field Operations Manager I will coach and assist staff and vendor partners to develop expertise in the installation, maintenance & repair of network infrastructure. Primary responsibilities will require a deep comprehension of how to diagnose and resolve all service issues from the central office, remote terminal or hut location to the customer’s premise equipment. Eg. Impairments to/with all connections, drop cabling, network interface units, patch panels, media cabinets, ONTs, inside wiring (fiber, ethernet , including backup powering, UPS, etc.), media gateways, modems, routers, switches, OSP Cabling, active electronics (including CWDM and DWDM applications). Candidates shall be able to lift up to 50 lbs utilizing ergonomic safety practices and be willing to work a minimum of 40 plus hours per week, and some Holidays as needed, and support rotating on-call shifts.

In this role, you'll:

  • Lead a team of technicians and oversee all field operations to include: planning, scheduling and coordination of all team activities (construction, installation, repair and maintenance)
  • Provide coaching and enforcement of good practices, identify opportunities for improvement and proactively offer suggested solutions, and define plans for team/individual development. 
  • A domain expert proficient in troubleshooting and resolving complex issues impacting residential and small business services; and mentoring team members to high proficiency of similar tasks.
  • Install, restore or maintain aerial or underground cable plant on customers’ property or within the Right-of Way per GFiber Standards
  • Highly proficient with the installation and test of Ethernet jacks, making cross connects in telecom spaces (MDF, IDF, HDF) working with fiber optic cables, installing radio mounts, tuning microwave point-to-point radios and performing installation/construction duties, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Navigate complex customer interactions with exceptional client service, professionalism, and thoroughness
  • Build relationships with property managers, building owners, municipalities, and city entities by leveraging advanced technical knowledge (i.e. network equipment, switches, wiring, radio and wireless technology)

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • 3 years in a supervisory position or similar experience in the telecommunication industry
  • 5 year experience in FTTH/GPON/XGS network construction and/or large scale fiber network deployments
  • 5 years of experience managing diverse relationships with contractors and suppliers
  • Expansive knowledge of the physical layer, 66 blocks, 110 blocks, patch panels, fiber optic cabling, etc.
  • Ability to articulate complex topics to all audiences; strong collaborator with internal and external stakeholders
  • This position will require a valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards.

It's preferred if you have:

  • Ability to operate Google Suite
  • Ability to operate in Salesforce applications and create dashboards for reporting
  • Experience interfacing with local pole owners and utility companies, coordinating with city/local permitting offices, and subject matter expertise in OSP FTTH deployments with experience in service drop installations
  • 5 years of experience with fiber to the B2B/Enterprise level fiber network construction/operations
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related to routers, switches and hubs
  • Experience with rack and stack work, assembling server stanchions, telemetry closet work (MPOE, DMARC, etc.), and patch panels
  • Practice and adhere to OSHA and NESC regulations for general industry

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $81,000 - $89,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter will share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
