TheΒ Field Services Technician role is pivotal in managing the end-to-end process of receiving, configuring, and deploying servers to ITS clients nationwide. With a primary focus on customer service and communication, this position demands a skilled professional capable of delivering high-quality technical solutions while ensuring client satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities
Hardware Installation and Configuration:
- Skillfully install and configure hardware components into server chassis.
- Execute server configurations and apply base settings following documented processes.
- Conduct thorough hardware and software validation to ensure seamless functionality.
Operating System Deployment:
- Deploy operating systems on servers according to client specifications.
- Collaborate with clients to understand unique requirements for OS configurations.
- Provide support and troubleshooting during the deployment phase.
Documentation and Progress Tracking:
- Update tracking spreadsheets with real-time equipment status and installation progress.
- Document all activities in project tickets, ensuring comprehensive and clear information.
Onsite Support:
- Travel to client sites for two to three weeks at a time to perform installations.
- Coordinate closely with the local IT team and client to schedule and execute onsite server installations.
- Deliver excellent customer service during onsite engagements.
Rack Installation and Cable Management:
- Install servers into network racks, adhering to industry standards.
- Practice meticulous cable management to ensure a neat and organized setup.
Customer Service and Communication:
- Establish and maintain strong communication with clients throughout the deployment process.
- Address client inquiries, provide status updates, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Act as a liaison between the client and internal teams to resolve any issues promptly.
Receiving and Shipping:
- Receive, inspect, and document incoming computer equipment shipments.
- Ensure accurate and timely packaging for outbound shipments.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail in tracking all shipments.
Job Qualifications
- Proven experience in field technical roles, specifically with server hardware installations and deployments.
- Strong customer service orientation and effective communication skills.
- Solid understanding of server components, configurations, and operating systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
- Previous experience working with clients and coordinating projects.
- Willingness to travel and work onsite for extended periods.
Compensation:
Pay rate ranges from $15.00/hr up to $18.00/hrΒ and vary by experience and location.
- Pay increase depends on acquisition of certificates. Technicians are expected to take the company sponsored certification at least once every six months upon hiring. (Example certifications: CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft MCDST or MCP.)
