A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is seeking a Finance Intern who will perform planning, analysis and reporting for an assigned financial area under general supervision. They will assist in other financial research projects and analysis of business operations.

This position primarily works with the Financial and Supply Chain Analyst - Operations as well as the Director Finance and Business Partner - North America Operations. The individual will apply proven communication, analytical, testing, and problem-solving skills. We need someone who can take charge of a project and deliver results. Our ideal candidate has the ability to work on multiple business projects simultaneously and translate business data into digestible information. The interest in and ability to leverage technical tools and resources is a key aspect of this position.

Valmont's internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership.

Essential Functions:
  • This position will report to Financial and Supply Chain Analyst - North American Operations
  • Flexible schedule; however must be able to work 20+ hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week over the summer
  • Substantial work with building standard reporting and dashboards leveraging visualization
  • Perform research tasks with a view to gather data pertaining to company processes and key indicators
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to uncover business information
  • Evaluate pertinent data by performing a variety of task analysis and business processes
  • Utilize resources to download and analyze data and metrics, identifying trends for reporting
  • Provide support for internal and external presentations
  • Make recommendations and extract insights
  • Solve problems with guidance from business leaders
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts within our finance, business and data teams
  • Take on ad hoc projects and cultivate your own ideas
  • Help optimize and assist development of current projects
  • Other projects and duties as assigned


Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
  • Bachelor's Degree or progress towards Bachelor's Degree in FinTech, Accounting, Finance or related field with an anticipated graduation within 18 months (Junior or Senior status)
  • GPA: 3.0 or above
  • Technical curiosity: interest in learning data analytics and presentation tools such as Power BI; ability to remain current on analysis tools and trends to drive competitive advantage.
  • Ability to communicate complex insights to a general audience
  • Enthusiasm to learn and apply data science concepts and leverage technology to make decisions
  • Demonstrates understanding of and alignment to our core values of: integrity, continuous improvement, passion and delivering results
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Power BI, Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a matrixed team


Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
  • Actively pursuing an MBA, Graduate degree in a finance-related field and/or advanced analytics degree a plus
  • Previous work experience in accounting or finance
  • Proficiency with Power BI or other specific data tools
  • Experience in manufacturing, infrastructure and/or supply chain industries


Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
