Job Description

Finance Manager

Hi, I'm Will, Head of Strategic Finance and Analytics at Customer.io, and I'm looking for a new Finance leader to join our team!

As the first dedicated member of the FP&A team, you’ll own our planning and forecasting processes - partnering with the rest of the Finance organization and leaders across the company. You will help us make better business decisions, plan for contingencies, and predict the downstream impacts of changes we’re considering to our products and services. You’ll also shape how our Finance team evolves as the company continues to grow.

You'll be a consultant and trusted advisor to folks across our Finance, People, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales and Customers Teams. By helping stakeholders across the business think through the financial and business impacts of their decisions, you’ll help us move smarter and faster. While data and financial analysis helps inform many decisions at Customer.io, it’s one factor alongside other things like customer research, our experience, and intuition. You won’t find us running endless analyses before we make decisions and you’ll be helping us make decisions that matter.

A bit about how we work...

Our current financial forecasting is done through a mix of SaaS tools, Google Sheets, and Excel. We gather non-financial business data, e.g. trials, demos, sales calls, etc, in our Snowflake data warehouse and use that to power some of our historical reporting and go-forward forecasting. We’re a remote-first company so being able to operate independently and on your own initiative is crucial.

As our new Finance Manager, you will...
  • Own the bottoms-up development of the 3-statement financial model, resource planning analysis, and ad hoc strategic finance projects.
  • Support the CFO and CEO in assembling Board and investor packets.
  • Partner with the leadership team to provide insights, identify risks and opportunities, inform decision-making, and achieve business goals. For example:
    • Help our Product team understand the expected ROI of an upcoming sprint.
    • Help our Customers team understand the value of Customer Success Managers.
    • Help our Leadership team understand the financial impact of adding a new product squad.
  • Work with the Accounting team to assemble monthly financial performance packets to share with the leadership team.
You are...
  • An independent problem-solver, but aren’t afraid to ask for help or collaboration when you need to.
  • Self-motivated, curious, inquisitive, and constantly seeking to understand how things work and fit together.
  • Exceptional financial modeling skills and business acumen.
  • You have experience in high-growth environments with the ability to influence across all levels of an organization.
  • You have a deep understanding of SaaS financials, metrics, and financial business drivers.
  • You work with a sense of urgency through ambiguities with a desire to consistently raise the bar.
  • A strong communicator - particularly in written form since clear writing will be important to sharing your insights with others across our distributed team.
  • Empathetic and able to put yourself into the shoes of your stakeholders to better understand what they care about and help them answer the questions they may not yet know they need to ask.
  • Based in UTC -4 to -7 (North or South America) to maximize working hours overlap.
What we're looking for
  • 6-8 years of relevant, progressive finance experience. Prior investment banking, corporate development, or management consulting experience preferred.
  • An experienced leader who has mentored and developed others during their career.
  • An exceptional storyteller who can communicate complex analyses in digestible ways to a non-financially fluent audience.
  • Someone who will help business leaders see around corners and drive impactful change to the business.
  • You have partnered with analytics or data teams before.

Ideally, but not required...

  • You’ve been a people manager before
  • You’ve worked with SaaS forecasting tools like Anaplan, Workday Adaptive Planning, Planful (Host Analytics) or Jirav
  • You’re comfortable with SQL or another language that lets you interact with databases directly.
