Finance & Operations Associate, RL4E
Job Description
The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation (PJMF) is a philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence and data science solutions to create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for all. PJMF works in partnership with public, private, and social institutions to drive progress on our most pressing challenges, including digital health, climate change, broad digital access, and data maturity in the social sector.
For more information, please visit our website at https://www.mcgovern.org/. Core to PJMF’s mission is inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA). We apply the IDEA framework to all we do, from growing a diverse team within the foundation to coalition building with organizations and people around the world, and to democratizing the development and rewards of AI and data.
About the role:
We are looking for a Finance and Operations Associate to join the PJMF team to drive engagement across the organization, and external partners, support our grants management process, and overall business operations. The Finance and Operations Associate will gain real-world exposure to various facets of finance, project management, and operations, and receive hands-on mentorship from experienced professionals in the tech philanthropy sector. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized and detail-oriented early career individual interested in the intersection of AI and data science for the greater good.Â
The Finance and Operations Associate will also be a part of the Rising Leaders for Equity Rotational Program. This two-year professional experience provides exposure across the Foundation and the broader field of philanthropy while providing a holistic professional experience centered on mutual learning, growth, and innovation. The Program Associate cohort will take part in a leadership-oriented curriculum that will equip them with the necessary skills to advance a career in philanthropy and social impact. Over the course of your tenure, our team will work with you to identify the next step in your career journey, and upon completion of the RL4E program, PJMF will work to support you to continue a legacy of social impact beyond PJMF.Â
Things you’ll do in your first year:
- Lead 2+ projects from concept to implementation in the areas of document management and storage, and risk management.
- Collaborate with various teams within PJMF to ensure seamless operations and support ongoing projects.
- Work alongside the Controller to assist in key financial processes, including accounts payable, month-end close, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Manage the flow of projects to track project timelines and deliverables across the Operations function.
- Learn and analyze PJMF’s existing operational processes to help support the Operations Team’s service offerings, and propose suggestions to help optimize those processes.
- Support and document PJMF’s grants management practices, identifying opportunities to further leverage our grants database for efficiency and reporting, particularly at the intersection of grants management reporting and accounting.
- Engage in work related to grant documentation and compliance.
- Support the creation of knowledge materials and maintain knowledge repository, including performing research on special topics that will advance PJMF’s work.
- Gain exposure to other areas of PJMF and the philanthropic field through the RL4E Program.
What you need to be successful:
- Study in areas of business, finance or accounting; or equivalent professional experience in a related field.Â
- Ability to transition between independent, project-based, and team-based work with ease from a digital location outside of an office.
- Strong written, oral, visual communication, and analytical skills.
- Capability to analyze and distill observations, ideas, and feedback into team notes, memos, and visual presentations.
- Ability to meet deadlines and produce high-quality work.Â
- Proficiency in G-Suite applications, including Google Slides.
- Proficiency with databases and MS-Excel.
- Genuine enthusiasm for building a human-centered, tech-enabled future where everyone thrives.
- Work eligibility – Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
What we offer:
- Compensation - We anticipate the starting salary range for this role to be $60,000, with flexibility based on graduate-level applicants.
- Health Coverage – We offer Foundation-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouses or domestic partners and dependents. In addition, we provide HSA/FSA plans, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage.
- Long-term Rewards – Our 401(k) retirement plan includes generous matching of up to 6% of annual pay, plus an additional discretionary match at the end of the year.
- Flexible PTO – We offer unlimited paid time off, which allows team members to take the time they need for vacation or illness so they can return to work able to contribute fully to our mission. In addition, the Foundation recognizes 11 paid national holidays per year and may also announce closure for local, regional or state holidays.
- Remote Work Environment - Employees work 100% remotely–but not alone–alongside a community of mature, socially minded professionals. We provide a monthly work support stipend to offset the costs of phone, internet, or co-working space.
- Wellness Support – In addition to our health coverage, we offer access to Ginger, Gympass, Headspace, and SmartSpend Plus, along with financial well-being service providers.
- Parental Leave – We provide up to 6 months of gender-neutral paid leave for parents and caregivers when they have a new addition to their families.
- Learning Reimbursements – We encourage team members to explore development opportunities such as peer learning, internal training, and external activities.
- Philanthropic Gift Matching – We support our team members' personal investments in social impact by matching eligible charitable donations 1:1 up to $1,000 per calendar year.
Application Deadline: March 15, 2024
Employment Dates: June 1, 2024 - June 2026
We look forward to receiving your application and learning more about your vision, potential, and commitment to using AI, technology, and social impact to address critical global challenges.
