Job Description
We're looking for a finance professional with a CPA and 3-6 years’ experience, with a minimum of 2 - 3 years in the Finance/Accounting function of an organization or audit firm in general ledger, financial reporting, and bank reconciliation areas to join our Finance team in NYC. We work in a hybrid model, people are in the office 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).Â

About Finance
Acumen, an international non-profit with seven boutique, entrepreneurial offices across six continents and seven jurisdictions working with philanthropic donations, grants, and investments, requires centralized financial oversight and support. The NY Finance team provides that oversight and support. The Finance team is responsible for all strategic, planning, reporting, and accounting activities for Acumen globally – these include processing payroll and expenses, audit and tax, developing managing reports, presenting insights and analysis from our business and ensuring the right controls and methodologies are in place to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.

We're looking for a financial professional committed to work-product excellence and timeliness. You enjoy working across multiple teams particularly with fundraising and investment groups and have an ability to build relationships by having a solutions-oriented mindset. This role requires a mastery of traditional accounting and finance functions that are the core of every successful finance team. Â
Accountabilities include :
General Finance and Accounting Functions
- Manage global month-end close process per Finance team’s checklist
- Assist with grant reporting, internal monthly reporting and analytics
- Reconcile and confirm revenue transactions initiated by development department
- Review and maintain accuracy of monthly activities in General Ledger, and determine changes/needs to keep up with organizational growth
- Coordinate with regional finance managers for quarterly funding requirements
- Analyze balance sheet accounts and resolve outstanding issues on a quarterly basis
- Assist with allocations and timesheet processing
- Assist with headcount and compensation analysis
- Collaborate with FP&A Manager on annual budgeting process and other internal reporting needs
Treasury Activities
- Manage banking activities such as remittances and wire transfers for programmatic activities, and incoming wires and contributions
- Manage banking relationships to effect smooth and accurate transactions related to cash movements and foreign currency translations
- Prepare and reconcile banking activities wires, inter-bank account transfers, bank fees, etc.
Annual Audit and Compliance
- Assist with annual audit by preparing supporting schedules in time for audit commencement
- Support Controller during audit, gathering requested data and explaining annual activity as questions arise
- Gather data and prepare supporting schedules for IRS Form 990 filing
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA required
- minimum of 3-6 years’ experience, with at least 2-3 years in the Finance/Accounting function of an organization or audit firm in general ledger, financial reporting and bank reconciliation areas
- Strong command of accounting theory and practice; knowledge of NetSuite and Salesforce a plus
- Experience in preparing for and driving audit-related deliverables
- Advanced Microsoft Excel spreadsheet skills
- Commitment to accuracy, attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability work with minimum supervision, should be a problem solver and must be able to prioritize complete assigned tasks on time

- Authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis
