Financial Accountant

Contract type: Full Time (37.5 hours per week) – Permanent
Location: Brighton Head Office

The Financial Accountant role is primarily responsible for working with the Group Financial Reporting Manager to maintain the financial control and financial management of Study Group’s functional and group-holding entities and for assisting with the Group consolidation to support both internal and external reporting.
This will include the management of the month-end close including general ledger entries and variance analyses as well as month-end balance sheet reconciliations. This additionally involves slide preparation for the monthly management accounts and assisting with the preparation of year-end financial statements.
ABOUT THE ROLE

• Maintenance of general ledgers including accruals, prepayments and other general ledger journals
• Ownership of the process of calculating and posting group journals such as short and long-term borrowings, intercompany postings and elimination journals for group consolidation amongst others
• Ensure consistency and accuracy of coding for invoices, expenses and other items
• Ensure all payroll journals are correctly posted
• Liaise with the Commercial Finance team, and other teams as required, to explain monthly variances
• Prepare and assist in the preparation of various slides for the monthly management accounts presented to the Exco
• Responsible for the reconciliation of group intercompany balances at month-end and general maintenance such as fixing intercompany mismatches and performing intercompany revaluation at year-end
• Assist in the production of group consolidated financial statements and individual statuary accounts
• Prepare audit schedules and answer audit queries
• Assist in the maintenance of a robust financial control environment as required.
• Prepare and review monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and ensure differences are identified and resolvedTroubleshoot Agresso and other systems-related issues as required
• Assist in various forms of data analysis as required by the business
• Ensure compliance with de

• Develop and maintain internal relationships with the Commercial Finance teams and other teams within the Finance directorate
• Develop relationships with other stakeholders across the business as required
• Liaise with auditors at interim and year-end close

ABOUT YOU

• Actively studying ACCA/CIMA/ACA.
• Financial Accounts preparation and reconciliation
• Using a range of finance/MI systems
• Team management experience.
