It is a great opportunity for candidates currently in accounting, finance, or analytics roles who want to broaden their experience, get closer to the business and learn key insurance profitability metrics. This role is a stepping stone to all financial data in the company providing exposure to all reserving and loss ratio analysis and actuarial reviews as well as an opportunity to work with senior leadership.
In this role you will use your technical expertise to perform and document complex and critical financial analysis projects exercising considerable latitude in approach and analysis. You will interpret the results and provide alternatives to management. In this role you may direct and lead projects and provide advice and direction to the team.
In this position, you will also enjoy a hybrid work schedule that consists of one day per week in one of our CNA Actuarial Hub offices (Chicago, IL; New York City, NY; Warren, NJ; Radnor, PA; and San Francisco, CA) with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the standard base pay range for this role is $56,000 to $223,850 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Participates in defining the issues and scope of assigned projects; determines approach and methodology, and provides direction and strategy.
- As senior-level financial expert independently investigates anomalies and variances in data.
- Accountable for preparing and presenting interpretations of findings.
- May participate in the development and implementation of financial strategies or tactics.
- Coaches, leads and develops less experienced analysts while fostering a positive, open team environment.
- Interacts and collaborates with other departments to address business issues and meet organizational objectives.
- Provides insight and guidance as an expert or resource throughout the company.
Reporting Relationship
Typically Manager or above
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Proven leadership ability and able to effectively build and lead teams.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, statutory and other complex accounting principles, practices and procedures which may include technical expertise in a functional area.
- Strong knowledge of corporate and departmental accounting/finance practices, procedures and principles as well as solid knowledge of the organization and industry.
- Excellent project management, organizing and planning skills.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve issues of a complex nature while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively and collaboratively interact with internal and external business partners.
- Knowledge of or ability and willingness to learn the organization's systems and to modify &/or develop systems.
- Strong knowledge of and ability to learn Microsoft Office Suite, accounting systems and applications, and other business-related software systems.
Education and Experience
- Relevant Bachelor's Degree and minimum of five years of related financial analysis experience in areas such as accounting, finance, analytics, actuarial, etc.
- CPA, CFA, CMA or professional insurance designation is a plus, but not required.
- Proficient with Microsoft excel and sql. Experience with dashboarding, tableau and other tools is a plus.
- Internal applicants at both the 260 level and the 240 level ready for promotion will be considered.
