Financial Analyst

Position Summary:
Southern California News Group, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the team! Analytic role within Finance working with cross functional teams to improve business performance. This role will provide financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting, process improvement, and support to the Southern California market. This position will focus on supporting the Advertising and Operations teams. The regional office is located in Irvine, California, and requires someone local to the Orange County area.
What you will do:

• Develops financial analysis to support departmental objectives and strategic direction.
• Provides leadership for departmental budgeting and forecasting efforts.
• Works closely with department managers on process improvement efforts.
• Develops recommendations to enhance company reporting and data quality.
• Employs sophisticated financial and analytical concepts to define and measure business drivers and key metrics.
• Works closely with Finance management to enhance company financial performance through a variety of financial analysis and projects.
• Analyzes departmental financial results and communicates key trends and issues.
• Ad hoc revenue reporting and analysis
• Assists with month end close - preparation of journal entries and variance analysis.

What you will bring:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
• 2+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis required.
• Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Must be proficient in Excel with the ability to learn new technologies and systems
• Self-driven with the ability to work with teams and work individually
• Attention to detail and ability to self-check work
• Expected to exercise judgment and independent thinking on a daily basis
• Capable of reporting to, and taking direction from, more than one person
• Ability to hit deadlines while ensuring quality of work.

The annual salary range is $75,000 - $90,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. This role is eligible for a bonus based on performance.
