The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) Vice Presidency of the World Bank Group is the core unit responsible for institutional risk oversight, including:
(i) developing and updating Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) approach and Framework, strengthening risk governance,
(ii) helping articulate risk appetite,
(iii) evaluating, monitoring and reporting financial and operational risks, (iv) disseminating risk knowledge and creating risk awareness, and
(v) reporting to the Board and executive management. CRO assists management with identifying and managing Group-wide cross-cutting risks, enhancing risk response decisions, reducing financial and operational surprises and losses, seizing opportunities and improving deployment of capital.
The CRO VPU has three departments :
(i) Credit Risk Department (CROCR) responsible for ensuring that the Bank's credit risk exposure is commensurate with the risk appetite of stakeholders and strikes the appropriate balance between financial and development objectives;
(ii) Market and Counterparty Risk Department (CROMC) responsible for overseeing market, commercial counterparty credit, liquidity and model risks; and
(iii) Operational Risk Department (CROOR or the department) responsible for assisting business units in identifying, assessing, and managing operational risks.
The position is based in Washington, D.C and will report directly to the Director, Market and Counterparty Risk.
Duties and Accountabilities
The financial analyst will have primary responsibilities of assisting the Director in administrative matters as well performing various financial & risk analyses and reporting as needed by the department.
Main duties and accountabilities will include the following:
- Function with a high level of judgment to provide a wide range of executive assistance to the Director, such as meeting coordination, travel planning,
- Analyze data and financial trends and identify and communicate any issues or financial risks to the Director/managers.
- Advise staff and managers on issues relating to system renewals and vendor contracts
- Support hiring and onboarding of new staff
- Support CROMC managers in designing, developing, and delivering risk reports and dashboards
- Manage the archival system for the CROMC and committee materials
- Collaborate with internal team and staff from other risk units and others across the Bank Group
- Assist in preparation and logistical planning for various events, e.g., conferences, workshops, learning, training etc.
- Update and maintain the website for CROMC in conjunction with the VPU site
- Research and analyze a wide variety of risk topics and issues as needed
- Demonstrate impeccable standards of integrity when handling confidential material; use tact and sensitivity when resolving delicate issues.
- Oversee the administrative functions of the department, i.e., TRS, LARS, and SAP.
- Coordinate and supervise general office procedures and guidelines, identify potential problems, and advise the Director accordingly.
- Handle ad hoc duties assigned by the Director/managers
Selection Criteria
- Minimum education consisting of a master's degree with 2 years of relevant experience in a relevant field/discipline (Accounting, Business, Finance, or other discipline relevant to the WB's mission) or a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience in a relevant field/discipline. World Bank Group experience preferred.
- Understanding of general risk principles and risk governance concepts
- Self-starter who takes initiative, proactively anticipates tasks and issues, pays attention to details, is well organized, focused, and works with minimal supervision to function effectively as a member of a team within pressure work environment.
- Proven ability of multi-tasking and working in a fast-pace environment where decisions are often made in a short time-frame.
- Ability to resourcefully find information needed for various tasks and solve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to research, extract, and process financial data from various source systems, repositories, and online sources.
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Flexibility to work on a wide range of assignments, take the initiative, and adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
- High level of integrity and discretion, sound business judgment, and diplomatic skills.
- Superior client orientation and inter-personal skills with proven ability to work cooperatively with multi-disciplinary teams, and with all levels of staff and managers.
- Experience in vendor management and payment e.g. costing, data subscriptions etc
- Ability to make regular use of IT systems, some of which are internally developed systems and some of which are external (e.g., Bloomberg).
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data handling and presentation software including SAP. Knowledge of SQL, and Tableau/Power BI is a plus.
