Job Overview

The Financial Analyst is a key role within the Komatsu Organization and will have knowledge of Komatsu Mining Corporation (KMC) Surface Financial Information that is not made known publicly or to all Company employees. This Role heavily interacts with the Surface Mining - Director of Finance, KMC Corporate Accounting - FP&A and Financial Excellence, Operations Accounting, Regional Finance Directors, Managers and Controllers, Milwaukee leadership and Internal/External Auditors.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Support financial planning cycle by preparing templates that will be used to gather relevant data from Surface regions, operations, and cost center managers. Templates include regional P&L, Balance Sheet, and Income Before Tax (IBT), headcount, and Milwaukee cost centers.
  • Communicate financial planning cycle requirements, assumptions, templates, and due dates to Surface regions, operations, and cost center managers. Provide support, training, etc. to effectively manage change in templates or process.
  • Consolidate financial outlooks and plans on a quarterly and annual basis including Bookings, P&L and Balance Sheet (Load cost centers and Sales/Cost of Sales details into SAP). Review bookings, sales and margin details for accuracy. Compare outlooks with prior actual results to understand and articulate key drivers of significant changes. Question inaccurate or unreasonable items.
  • Prepare financial trend and analyses comparing current operating results with prior operating results, outlook, and annual plan. Provide analytical results in a concise format to be used by management to make key business decisions.
  • Follow-up with regional and operational Finance Directors, Managers and Controllers as well as cost center managers to investigate key drivers impacting monthly results and financial plans.
  • Prepare global monthly financial reporting package that provides a consistent, accurate report of operating results. Prepare files for the new month.
  • Own the preparation of monthly Bookings, Billings, and Backlog Flash results. Champion and super-user for BBB system. Prepare original equipment backlog and bookings/sales trends.
  • Coordinate all new original equipment bookings by gathering appropriate support and working closely with commercial and regional teams to book equipment.
  • Prepare quarterly presentations for Surface Executive Leadership (ESM) and ad hoc financial reports and analysis as needed.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts monthly. Review general ledger transactions, perform monthly analysis and problem solve issues. Ensure financial reporting controls are performed timely with proper evidence of review. Provide documentation to internal and external auditors in support of internal control testing and walk-throughs.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (Discipline Preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis or Accounting, preferably for a manufacturing or global company. Ability to prepare financial statements and explain results.
  • SAP/BPC experience a plus
  • High level of proficiency with MS Excel. Proficiency in MS PowerPoint and Word.
  • Working with and interpreting large amounts of data, developing trend lines, and assisting in formulating action plans.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, Problem Solving, written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is needed.
  • Work both independently and in collaboration with team members.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive tasks. Committed to meeting established deliverables accurately and on-time.
