We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Financial Analyst IIon our Publishing Operations team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2 days a week in the office.
As a Financial Analyst II you will contribute to the effectiveness of Publishing Operations by performing functions associated with financial planning, reporting and operational analyses to improve the financial effectiveness of Periodical Publishing business unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Analysis and Reporting
• Prepare financial analyses that inform business decisions related to revenue and costs.
• Produce forecasts and recommendations to assess potential strategic initiatives, new products, and business lines.
• Lead all financial modeling requests across publishing; models will be built based on specific requests and will include all internal and external factors impacting revenue and operating costs.
• Build reports that track financial trends and other metrics for leadership and internal clients; Meet with team to review and interpret reports highlighting positive and negative trends.
• Coordinate with AMA accounting team to ensure accurate and on-time monthly/quarterly/yearly financial close process.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement in existing systems.
• Serve as point of contact for financial systems within Publishing business unit and train new users as needed.
• Provide financial modeling support for revenue projections across a wide variety of revenue streams, including external market dynamics impacting volume and price.
Budget
• Support and facilitate the Annual Budget Planning process.
• Develop annual planning calendar with input from Director, Projects and Operations, to ensure alignment of key deadlines across various functions.
• Provide department-level variance analysis of actual vs forecast vs budget.
• Manage capital projects, including coordinating the review process with the Capital Committee and working with team leads to ensure capital payments are handled properly.
Vendors and Contracts
• Serve as the financial liaison to assist internal clients with vendor management, including facilitating the purchase requisition process and invoice payments.
• Participate in contract review with team leads for new contracts and renewals.
• Serve as point of contact for contract-tracking systems within Publishing business unit and train new users.
• Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues in AMA Finance, Human Resources, Office of General Counsel, Information Technology, and other business units.
May include other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related field is required.
- Minimum 5+ years accounting or financial experience required; experience in a for-profit work environment in financial reporting and analysis preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate and build relationships with all levels of leadership, staff, and management.
- Proficient at building financial models for new and existing products.
- Ability to manage multiple and varied projects concurrently and proactively.
- Current knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) required.
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Self-motivated, highly organized and detail oriented.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) required; experience with Oracle Essbase preferred
