Financial Controller

Universal Realty Group is a Halifax-based property management company known for setting a standard of excellence in residential accommodation and commercial leasing. We are currently seeking a qualified Controller to join our Halifax-based head office.

As a strategic financial business leader, you bring a strong work ethic, a proactive mindset and the ability to take initiative in driving financial performance. You will provide financial expertise that supports our philosophy of Serving Excellence, while helping maximize return on investment and execute a financial plan aligned with our business strategy. You will lead and refine accounting functions that deliver accurate, timely, and meaningful financial results.

Responsibilities

• Oversee company’s corporate accounting function
• Prepare and report company financials
• Review costs and develop strategies to improve profit
• Analyze financial data and market trends
• Assist business development with planning and budgeting
• Provide financial guidance to management
• Monitor financial policies, practices and procedures of the operation
• Ensure necessary internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets
• Track, review and manage expense claims
• Manage other accounting, finance, and special project responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

• Completion of a recognized accounting designation, CPA or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong work ethic and integrity
• Proven experience in Microsoft Office Suites, strong proficiency in Excel is required
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Experience with reconciling and analyzing financial data
• Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems
