Job Description

Company
Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago
The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Financial Markets Group (FMG) is focused on advancing financial policy and robust market practices. We analyze and advise issues that affect the entire life cycle of trading in financial instruments, particularly those that are traded on centralized exchanges in Chicago such as interest rate products, commodities, and emerging asset classes like digital assets. We are part of the Research, Policy, and Public Engagement (RPPE) function.
FMG is hiring a Financial Markets Analyst to advance the team's efforts to expand its analytical capabilities for research that require use of complex data sets. You will use database knowledge to compile statistical data, create data exploration tools, conduct initial data exploration on your own and work with senior FMG staff to develop data-driven analysis.
As a Financial Markets Analyst, you will be a go-getter who is highly motivated to learn about financial markets. While this team is focused primarily on understanding market structure and market functioning issues, in this role you will also learn about and analyze asset price developments. You will be proactive in identifying ways to use data to analyze policy issues and engage routinely with senior staff to implement new ideas. Intellectual curiosity is a must and experimentation is encouraged.
You will report to the Vice President of the Financial Markets Group. You will work with knowledge leaders, senior advisors, economists, analysts, and communication professionals across RPPE.
Your Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis of financial and economic data.
  • Provide analytical support and contribute to written analysis.
  • Monitor market functioning metrics and asset prices.
  • Create and maintain automated reports that use large data sets.
  • Provide project management support for key FMG events like conferences and routine meetings with external stakeholders.
  • Conduct independent research and produce written analysis for internal policy briefings and/or external publication.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on research and other analysis.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive work environment, including supporting Bank and Department Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.

Your Background
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • You have one to three years of relevant professional experience managing and analyzing data and creating visualizations, preferably in R or Python.
  • Strong Excel skills are required.
  • You have had exposure to or have strong interest in learning about exchange-trade products including interest rate derivatives, commodities, and other emerging asset classes like digital assets.
  • You have strong communication (written and oral) skills.
  • You have strong organization and planning skills.

What we offer
  • Comprehensive benefits package include medical, dental, vision, prescription drug coverage, 401k savings plan, retirement plan, paid time off, transit benefit, onsite gym and subsidized cafeteria.
  • A continuous learning environment with opportunities to gain new skills and grow your career.

Additional Requirements
  • All Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and receive a booster shot within 30 days of being eligible to do so, unless the Bank grants an accommodation based on medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
  • This position requires access to confidential supervisory information and/or FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents who either are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization or who have applied for naturalization within the requisite timeframe. Candidates who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents may be eligible for the information access required for this position and sponsorship for a work visa, and subsequently for permanent residence, if they sign a declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen and meet other eligibility requirements.
  • As a condition of employment, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago employees must comply with the Bank's ethics rules which generally prohibit employees, their spouses/domestic partners, and minor children from owning securities, such as stock, of banks or savings associations or their affiliates, such as bank holding companies and savings and loan holding companies. If you or your spouse/domestic partner or minor child own such securities and would not be willing or able to divest them if you accepted an offer of Bank employment, you should raise this issue with the recruiter for this posting, who can provide you contact information for our ethics official if necessary.

We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status.
