Compensation Description
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $60,000 - $80,000 annually.
The Position
Arrowhead seeks a highly energetic & self-motivated Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst to manage short-term and long-term financial planning including annual budgeting for our R&D Discovery departments, as well as other areas of finance and analysis. The position will report to Arrowhead’s FP&A Manager - R&D Operations in Madison and will work closely with other members of Arrowhead’s Finance and Accounting, as well as R&D Discovery teams.
Responsibilities:
- Annual budget process, long-term forecast, periodic re-forecasts, and ongoing projections for the R&D Discovery departments; includes operating expenses, capital investments & headcount planning
- Continuously identify and communicate all risks and opportunities against the existing budget/forecast(s)
- Serve as a business partner to the Discovery Leadership Team & provide financial analysis to support R&D Discovery strategic decisions
- Drive purchasing process improvements and efficiencies by performing R&D Discovery spend analysis and understanding the work of Discovery scientists
- Create and continuously improve Discovery Dashboards tracking spending and relevant department KPIs to enable real-time strategic decision making
- Advance KPIs to improve tracking and drive efficiency initiatives
- Create Power BI reports for use by the broader FP&A team
- Prepare monthly/quarterly financial deliverables such as accruals, journals & reclasses
- Manage day-to-day contract and purchase order approvals
- Participate in other ad-hoc projects, roles, and workload sharing between Finance and Accounting as appropriate
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting, or bachelor’s degree in a Scientific discipline with an MBA
- 3+ years experience in financial reporting/analysis
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to gather, analyze and interpret information for completeness and accuracy; excellent attention to detail; excellent organizational skills
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
- Strong communication skills, and ability to effectively interact with others at all levels – within and outside of finance. Ability to tailor communication to the audience to achieve desired results
- Self-starter with a positive attitude, a passion to learn, and a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced atmosphere with minimal supervision
- Potential travel to up to 10% of the time may be required
Preferred:
- Previous work experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry (or related experience)
- MBA/CPA with R&D finance experience in a commercial life sciences/pharmaceutical company
- Experience with FP&A Planning systems
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365
