The Dow Chemical Company Finance organization has an opening for a Financial Risk Manager within the Treasury's Financial Risk Management Team (FRMT). The purpose of the position is to develop, execute, monitor and manage the financial risk management strategy for a portfolio of financial exposures.

About You

In this role, you will be a key member of the FRMT reporting to a Director of Financial Management. The FRMT manages the global hedging and investments related to a $40+ billion portfolio of exposures derived from foreign currencies, interest rates, commodities and investments. Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop, pitch, execute, and manage financial risk strategies, including:
    • Monitoring market exposures, analyzing internal (Treasury data, currency/exposure assessments) and external (Bloomberg, economic research) information.
    • Assessing macroeconomic conditions, market dynamics, and potential impact on financial exposures (earnings, cash flow, value changes).
    • Evaluating, applying, and analyzing hedging instruments (derivatives) concerning costs, benefits, credit exposure, regulatory adherence, and accounting considerations
    • Formulating and sharing market insights and hedging strategies based on fundamental, technical, and quantitative analyses.
    • Balancing strategies to optimize financial volatility, profitability, liquidity, and positive financial market positions.
    • Take positions in the financial markets to earn positive profits for the company.
  • Act as a trusted risk advisor by:
    • Providing insights on market risks, educating on best mitigation practices, and offering updates on market shifts.
    • Forecasting macroeconomic conditions and market trends, collaborating with Financial Planning to align financial exposure estimates and risk mitigation.
  • Mentor FRMT members in risk management best practices and strategies.
  • Oversee the orderly execution and management of risk strategies in collaboration with various company and external functions (Treasury, Operations, Compliance, etc.), ensuring:
    • Efficient management of hedging instruments and investments.
    • Thorough financial performance evaluation, reporting, and compliance with regulatory and company standards.
    • Proactive evaluation and improvement of FRMT practices and infrastructure.
  • Handle ad-hoc requests, project delivery, and routine duties effectively.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree (preferentially in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Finance and/or Economics) OR relevant military experience at a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class, Sergeant ranking or higher
  • A minimum of 8 years of total experience with a focus in financial/capital markets-oriented positions, and/or other relevant experience.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (MBA with a finance focus preferred).
  • CFA Charterholder.
  • Prior experience in Treasury Financial Operations and Financial Planning is desirable. Understanding of financial operations, planning and accounting principles with an understanding of the principals of hedge accounting, a regulatory and control environment, and business/financial law.
  • Understanding of and interest in technology and financial systems.
  • Demonstrated competence and interest in quantitative techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, advanced MS Excel skills
