How Will Your Role Impact First Command?
The Financial Services Intern is part-time role responsible for practicing their accounting knowledge and skills in a professional setting. This position will collaborate with multiple teams such as Financial Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Commission Accounting, and Vendor Management to complete responsibilities for a high-growth integrated financial services organization focused on our nation's military and their families. Their duties include supporting the Financial Services department with various projects and tasks as they gain experience and confidence within their desired profession.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Participate in monthly and quarterly closing processes including journal entry preparation and account reconciliations
- Participate in the Financial Accounting records management process by loading and indexing documents in document repository
- Perform activities relating to the accounts payable function, such as reviewing corporate credit cards, aiding in mapping vendor information, and validating 1099 information
- Validating detail insurance revenue commissions
- Work with the accounting system to research various issues
- Prepare audit-related requests
- Assist Finance team with various other projects and duties
- The position(s) is in Fort Worth, Texas, with an expectation to be in the office two to three days a week
What Skills/Qualifications Do You Need?
Education
- Upper-level (Junior/Senior) undergraduate with declared accounting major degree status. Prefer having Intermediate Accounting I completed.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (comfortable with VLOOKUP function and Pivot Tables)
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks based on relative importance and urgency
- Able to communicate project status to various levels of management in both technical and non-technical terms
- Ability to balance multiple priorities
- Additionally, knowledge of/experience in Microsoft Dynamics, Concur, Laserfiche would be viewed as a positive
