Financial Services Specialist
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Financial Services Specialist will be responsible for submitting monthly invoicing to SNAP E&T for reimbursements and providing financial assistance counseling to prospective students. In addition to the college, this person will work closely with Workforce Development in gathering information in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Financial Services Specialist works under the supervision of the Student Financial Services Manager and in collaboration with the accounting department and college administration to adhere to financial policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance; related work experience in accounting or financial aid in a higher education setting will be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in accounting and/or financial aid.
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel within state limits.
- Knowledge of GAAP
- Knowledge of accounting and other applicable software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be proficient in operating a computer and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Must be able to clear DMV check
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gather required data to prepare and submit monthly invoices to SNAP E&T.
- Work closely with Workforce Development staff to ensure that monthly payroll, invoices, and cancelled checks are provided to submit invoices in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate documentation via data entry system.
- Conduct verification of student and parent application data in compliance with federal criteria.
- Perform general administrative services including maintaining student financial records and supporting the finance team as needed.
- Assist with resolving student billing disputes.
- Advise and counsel students and parents regarding the financial aid process and available financial assistance through Goodwill.
- Participate in outreach activities and presentation of financial aid information to groups of students, parents, high school counselors, and/or the general public in workshop or training sessions.
- Assist with tuition remission program and payment plan processing.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Student Financial Services Accounting Manager and/or Chief Academic Officer.

- Effectively present information to faculty, staff, college administration, advisory committees, and other stakeholders.Â
- Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to complete projects efficiently and independently.
- Working knowledge of federal financial aid programs and supporting regulations preferred but not required.
- Skill in researching regulatory information and resolving complex financial questions.
- Skill in operating a computer and various supporting software packages such as office suite, email, etc. and ability to learn and utilize new software.
- Ability to diffuse difficult, angry, or emotional situations with students and/or parents.
- Must be able to occasionally work long or extended hours, including weekends.
