  • This is a Term position scheduled to exceed 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management. Are you available for term employment?
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator license of the appropriate classification or kind.
  • Must be able to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoD6055.5M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • Must participate in the Fort Benning Fire Division's Fitness and Wellness Program, IAW NFPA 1583Standard on Health-Related Fitness Programs for Fire Fighters and DoDI 6055.6 Fitness and Wellness.
  • Heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects such as cylinders and extinguishers weighing 45 lbs or more.
  • This position works a 144-hour bi-weekly tour of duty and subject to rotating assignments between all Fort Benning fire stations, to provide cross staffing and meet staffing requirements.
  • This is a mission essential position whereby the incumbent is required to report for duty or remain in place during inclement weather conditions or other appropriate emergency conditions in order to carry out the assigned mission.
  • The incumbent of this position must sign DA Form 5019-R as a condition of employment and shall be subject to periodic and random urinalysis drug testing as required by AR 600-85.
  • The incumbent of this position will work rotating shifts.
  • The incumbent of this position will wear a uniform.
  • Employee must maintain current Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (CPR and AED)card.
  • Position is subject to periodic travel (5%).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify at GS-05 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling or extinguishing structural and non-structural fires as a member of an organized fire department; Performing rescue operations; Utilizing and maintaining firefighting equipment; Applying basic first aid to personnel in need of assistance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.

To qualify at GS-06 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling or extinguishing structural and non-structural fires as a member of an organized fire department; Performing rescue operations; Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; Responding to basic hazardous incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

NOTE: For the GS-06 grade level you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

To qualify at GS-07 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling or extinguishing structural and non-structural fires as a member of an organized fire department by operating firefighting equipment; Performing rescue operations; Controlling hazardous material spills and releases; Providing training in fire protection and prevention; Administering emergency medical care to victims. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

NOTE: For the GS-07 grade level you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State or National Registry EMT Certification Card.

GS-05: Must possess and maintain the Firefighter I and II certifications.

GS-06:Must possess and maintain Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF), and Driver/Operator.

GS-07:Must be certified and maintain certifications within the DOD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system, Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (FSPQS)/ProBoard or International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). Certified as a Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Technician, Driver/Operator ARFF, and Driver/Operator Pumper levels (in accordance with DoD Instruction 6055.6 and DoD Manual 6055.6M). Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification issued by a state or National Registry. NOTE: If assigned to Fort Moore Driver/Operator Aerial certification will be required to be obtained and maintained within 6 months of employment. The position is required to obtain and maintain all regulatory required licenses and/or certifications.

Education
